Madina Tunis refers to the old, historic part of the capital city of Tunisia, Tunis. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is famous for its well-preserved medieval architecture, narrow winding streets, bustling souks (markets), and significant historical landmarks. The Madina (or Medina) is the heart of Tunis and dates back to the 7th century, shaped by various civilizations, including the Arabs, Ottomans, and French.

Some of the notable landmarks in the Madina Tunis include:

Zitouna Mosque: The largest and oldest mosque in Tunis, built in the 8th century.
The Souks: Vibrant markets selling traditional goods such as textiles, spices, and handicrafts.
Dar Hussein: A former palace that now houses a museum.
The Medina's Gates: The city has several impressive gates, such as Bab el-Bahr, Bab Souika, and Bab el-Jeddid.

Sadly, the day I visited the museum was closed and it was a wet morning. However, wandering around the remains was still fun.

This is one of about seven Ancient Roman sites you can access in Carthage for 12 dinars - terrific value for money! There are few signs telling you about the remains but this didn’t hamper my enjoyment of the place.

This is a beautiful town located high in the hills and about a 40 minute drive from the centre of Tunis. It’s one of those places where it’s hard to stop taking photos. The very alley you walk down seems to deserve a photo. The centre is rather touristy but that’s to be expected.

In the middle of Tunis' medina you will find Zitouna Mosque, the second oldest one in Tunisia, after the Mosque of Uqba in Kairouan. Like Uqba, Zitouna has pilfered the Roman site of Carthage in search of building materials, mainly columns. The original structure dates back to early 8th century, but a large part, including the square minaret was added by the Aghlabids in the 9th and the Zirids in the 10th.
The whole structure is huge ; especially the central courtyard, which has some wells and a sundial.

It is a broad Bulevard. The part is called the New Town, the colonial Tunis. There are two lanes for cars in each direction and in the center there is a broad promenade for pedestrians framed with trees. There are also benches to sit and watch the live. It starts at the French embassy and ends at the clock tower. In this street, you find shops with loacal and international brands and some cafés and restaurants, where you can hava a snack or meal and drinks and take a rest.

Had I not been with a guide, I would never have known! Great place to see local life. The market is clean but the part where they sell fish is a little slippery as floors are wet so mind how you walk. There is fresh fruit, bread and more. I was told by my guide that prices are very reasonable. If you are vegetarian or can't stand the smell of fish or meat, then maybe avoid these areas. Highly recommend.

I took the train from Sidi Bou Said to Carthage Hannibal Station, about 3 stops away. The walk from the Train Station was long and uphill. I was ready to give up when I saw the roofs of this church. There are steps still under construction that I took to reach it.

Currently, it is closed for renovation. It is huge and beautiful, took several pictures here before going to the Ticket Office to buy the ticket for the Archeological Sites.

Every door of Medina has its own story. Medina is famous in its colorful doors, a wonderful design and attractive style. During old times, where no bell, door has a knocker, it’s a 2 steel pieces, knocking them together to alert house members that someone is there. Also some doors used to have 2 knockers, up and down. So, if a child come and knock the door, a lady can realize a child by the down knocking and can open the door without well dressing and so. So this is the arts of doors.
