It ranks at place 90 on Reuters list of top universities in Europe and with 40,000 students is considered big. There are several university buildings scattered over the city. The oldest section Collegium Maius is on Jagiellonksa just 200m southwest of the main square. It dates from the 1370s but was restructured in Gothic style during Krakow's golden age. It houses the university museum and from its courtyard you can admire the two-hourly parade of wooden figures at the university clock.
Recently the university made it possible for transgender students to register for online education with their preferred name (and not the name on their birth certificate).
