We strolled around the castle grounds and the cathedral. Great views of the river and the town and a good way to see the castle for free. Spotted the famous fire breathing dragon statue and walked down to get a close up photo. We walked a way along the riverbank viewing the castle from a different perspective. Nice way to spend a few hours.

Having spent the first few days of our trip in the main square and the roads off it , the Jewish area was quite a different feel. It was more laid back, less touristy. We started at the Old Synagogue and just wandered around. We found the Schindler’s List filming area around Józefa St. Lots of information here on the rounding up of Jews, and surviving in the ghetto and the resistance. We also stopped for vodka tasting at Wokda bar on the corner.
Totally recommend as a safe area to just wander and explore, lots of bars and restaurants away from the more touristy main centre.

When we were walking the streets of Krakow in March , after passing Florian's Gate we've reached a section of the Planty Park - outside the fortified medieval walls of the city.
The park itself is very big - imagine it like a green belt around the old city center ... if you take a look on the map you'll get a better picture of its size.
Now this green area is suitable for walks , jogging if you like , it is a "green area" that has statues on public display - some of those are very interesting and very expressive. And since we've covered just a small section of the park for sure there is much more to be discovered here.
Overall a very nice area for sports and walking ... and to enjoy a patch of nature in the middle of the buzzing city of Krakow.

Up ,out and about on a beautiful but cold February morning, my twin brother and I headed from Stare Miasto where we were staying over to the Jewish Quarter ( Kazimierz ) to have a day out exploring this historic and vibrant district of this fascinating city, we visited Ulica Szeroka ,a street we always look forward to visiting.
This street is located in the heart of the Jewish Quarter, along this street you'll find the Wolf Pepper Synagogue, Remuh Synagogue and the Old Synagogue which are beautiful places of worship that thankfully survived the horrors of the German occupation of World War Two, also along the street are some amazing pubs, bars, cafe's and restaurants, we enjoyed beers in Krokodyli Pub ,its just a fantastic street to check out if you're planning a holiday to Krakow and find yourself in the Jewish Quarter.

Walking in Krakow - on the Grodzka street - a very nice experience ... now for you who've been travelling , Barcelona has La Rambla, Budapest has Vaci street, Vienna has Graben ... in Krakow the equivalent is Grodzka street and while it is not as much loaded with souvenir shops, pubs and restaurants like the the streets I've mentioned in other great cities of Europe it is by any means a very interesting area for walking.
The street is ranging from Wawel castle to the Main square , connecting those - along the street you'll find several landmarks of the city, just to mention a few : St. Peter and St. Pauls church, the St. Andrews church ... etc. etc.
As you are walking from Wawel towards the Main sqaure, after passing St. Peter and St. Pauls church you will find more souvenir shops, and several cafes, pubs and restaurants - so if you fill like getting a bite or a refreshing beverage after or during your walk you will find plenty of spots.
Now I will stop here , and invite you to discover Grodzka street by yourself ... enjoy.

Dzielnica Zydowska is the central plaza that opens up from the Old Synagogue ( Stara Synagoga ) .
There's lots of interest here ,the beautiful synagogue's such as Old Synagogue, Remuh Synagogue and Wolf Popper Synagogue, there's some really touching monuments relating to the plight of the Jewish faith during World War Two and of course you have the pubs, bars, cafe's and restaurants on this square ,its such an exhilarating place to visit if you're in the Jewish Quarter, easy to locate, just walk along Ulica Szeroka.

Rynek Podgorski is a really impressive square in the eclectic and historically important Podgorze district of Krakow, the square is dominated by the stunning St Joseph's Church, one of the most beautiful churches in Krakow in my opinion, around the square are some great looking buildings and also some nice cafe's, bars and restaurants, its a great square to check out if you're in the Podgorze district, well worth visiting if you're planning a holiday to Krakow.

This is another historic street in downtown Krakow. Like the rest of the city, Szewska is full of tourist boutiques and restaurants. I guess most visitors will just pass by.

There were some teenagers abseiling down one of the tower structures here. They were brave to even climb up it. An excellent piece of entry level ‘urban exploration’.

Kazimierz district ( Jewish Quarter ) is one of my favourite area's of this city to visit, although I always stay in the Stare Miasto district I have whole days out here ,I love the history attached to this area,if one street encapsulates all that's amazing about Kazimierz district its Miodowa.
This is quite a long street, lots of interesting buildings along this street such as Temple Synagogue, one of the oldest synagogues in Krakow, you can't ignore the atrocities that occurred in this district and even along this street during World War Two, I love nothing better than strolling down this street and enjoying the architecture, atmosphere and dropping into a bar or pub along Miodowa.
Well worth checking out if you're in the Kazimierz district of Krakow.

In this square you will find the gorgeously intricate architecture of the Slowacki Theatre and the attractive Church Of The Holy Cross.

This historic St Mary Magdalene Square is situated at Grodzka Street which is part of the Royal Route in Krakow.

Two impressive churches can be found next to the square: the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul and the Church of St Andrew.

In the middle of the square is a quite new monument to Piotr Skarga (1536-1612), a Polish Jesuit. It was unveiled in 2001.

If you are interested in abandonned buildings, places, and things then the train graveyard is a must see! I had seen a post that it was somewhere in Krakow area but found it hard to find more information. After cycling there from Krakow center, which is a nice ride, I found that the site of the train graveyard is actually on the main train line with a station right next to it!
There is a long pedestrian bridge with steps leading down to the trains, the trains are unfenced and can be explored.
Very atmospheric and great for photos and thinking about the busy lives that the trains have had, now to be resting up here.
Be wary as there are some undesirables hanging out there too, so perhaps dont take all your expensive kit and dont be too naive going to a place like this.
