There are perhaps more gilded churches in the city but we hadn’t realised the significance of the crypt which has been renovated and holds some of Poland’s leading scientists and writers who have passed away

We did not spend much time in the museum which is small and headed for the mound. It was quiet when we were there which was ideal as there are no guard rails on the path of the mound which was fine as kids are older but we all commented that it was quite high. We all enjoyed the views and photo opportunity of Krakow. It’s an impressive statue
The characterisation of the knights is really good.

He is regarded as a national poet of Poland (but also, strangely, he is regarded as national poet in Lithuania and Belarus too - this is due to his origins).
In the Main Market Square in the Old Town of Krakow one shall find his monument - although is a reconstruction since the original monument was destroyed by the Germans during the occupation of Krakow in WWII.

The statue of the Pope John Paul II in the in courtyard of the Wawel castle just outside of the main entrance to the Wawel Cathedral is depicting John Paul in the papal clothing with his characteristic staff in his left hand.
The artist managed to capture very vividly the face of the Pope and I have to say there is a remarkable resemblance between the statue and the man.
Visiting is free of charge and if you are visiting the Wawel castle and the Wawel Cathedral you can't miss (just be prepared that typically there a flocks of people at the statue so you have to wait a few min for some pictures)

He passed away in 1997 but is now eternally sitting sharply dressed and often with flowers in his hand outside a café at the main square.
He is a bit difficult to find though - the exact address is Rynek Glowny - this is on the opposite of the Basilica - on the long side running where the Town Hall Tower stands, His little setting is really like the first table outside the window of the Vis a Vis bar - that should help.
You can actually sit down with him as there is a free chair opposite - but only for a very quiet tête à tête as it only has room for two people.

Nothing special in my opinion. You can look for it if you find it interesting or skip it at all if you're not. The story behind the statue is very interesting - however I will not present it here - I'll let you discover it by yourself.

The monument is depicting the painter seating inside a painting frame - very interesting and very original from the perspective of the work.

He gain notoriety by joining the American Colonial army in the American Revolutionary War - he got promoted up to the rank of Brigadier General for his contribution to the American victories in the war.
He returned to Poland in 1784 to serve and help his country - and he contributed greatly.
His tomb is in the crypt of the Wawel Cathedral.
