Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of my favourite places to visit. Breathtaking views all around. Its a bucket list trip if you haven't been. Night time is the best time to see parliament because it lights up and its amazing to see.

If you're visiting Budapest, Fisherman's Bastion should be a top priority. We visited during the Christmas period and it was so charming, from the gorgeous architecture to the market stalls selling mulled wine and hot food etc. The views from the top are breathtaking. Give yourself a few hours to walk around and just soak it in.

Older or less-fit folk might want to take the lift up because taking the steps up to the Bastion can be quite tiring.

A fun experience which takes up around 2/3 hours. Take extra towels for drying up afterwards as the one you carry round gets soaked! Also flip flops are compulsory. Loved the various steam rooms/ saunas and cold plunge pools. Other indoor pools a bit dull. Outside thermal pools with fountains, whirl pools etc are lovely. We couldn’t get a cabin (didn’t pre book, just bought tickets on arrival, no queue at 11am on a Monday) but locker areas were plentiful. Bit of a wait if you wanted a shower before dressing. Loads of free hairdryers. Men and women have separate locker areas and lockers are free and operated by wrist band you get issued at start. Cost around £20 each. It was busy but very spacious so not a major problem

The Basilica is impressively stunning. I visited the church + treasury and the terrace. Amazing view, a lot of stairs. I am a fairly active person and thought I would take the stairs instead of the lift / elevator. There were a bit more steps than I expected. According to Google, there are 364 steps, to me it felt like 10 000 steps. Good thing the treasury is half way, so I went in while I tried to catch my breath. Totally worth the climb, amazing 360° view.

These shoes are an iconic memorial in Budapest. It shows a simple but strong message that is asking a heartfelt question...Where are they? It depicts lots of sets of bronze shoes all in differing conditions on the tip of the river's edge, as if to suggest the owners of the shoes have jumped in the river never to be seen again.

A walk anywhere along the Danube River is a picturesque one day or night. You can take a general stroll or make a point of a long walk and take in many of the sights along this great river. If the weather is really bad, you can take the tram along part of it's route too.

This was the last stop on our day walk and it felt so rushed. We should have planned a whole day just for the castle area which is like a walled village with cobbled streets that we didn’t really enjoy as we didn’t realise it was as big as it was. Very quaint and you can see where disney gets inspiration from for the castles and such. The castle itself is under repairs, but nonetheless was interesting to see the before photos in the boards. Lovely side streets, an amazing Ruswurm café dating back to the 1800’s (austro hungarian empire (rumour has it that Sisi the austrohungarian empress was a fan of the cafe. So I really recommend a cake or 2 from there.

The view from the fisherman’s bastion is spectacular, best views from the paid entry onto the wall, though lovely views from open areas too.

To get up to the castle the funicular lines are so long or there are golf cart style shuttles every 15 minutes or so that will drive you up, around the castle and back down. Neither are cheap Funicular is £10 each (5,000 ft) or the shuttle is £12 each (6,000 ft). Or you could walk up or get a local bus.

Top tips, don’t underestimate the size of the area. You could easily spend a whole day.
Queues! Especially for last busses/ funicular down.

Really check if the budapest card is worth it for you. We walked the whole city and not huge museum fans so we didn’t get the cards. €99 each for 72hours is steep for what we would have got out of it.

Stunning cathedral and well wroth the effort to enter and walk around ... took about an hour inside and saw everything in a calm matter.

Consider buying your tickets online to avoid the big queues to buy tickets. Entrance fee was 5 euros.

Once inside the size is unreal and make sure you go to the stairs and go up to the 2nd floor exhibits where you have wonderful views of the alter and organ.

I went to the Hungarian National Opera to see Swan Lake. The interiors were beautiful, richly decorated, with a large foyer (it reminded me a lot of the National Theatre in Prague). I was a little disappointed that you couldn't buy a paper programme there. It was available only online. Unfortunately, we, who don't use data, couldn't read the programme before the performance. The building itself is really very beautiful and it is definitely worth visiting.

There are many bridges built on the Danube River, but this is the most iconic of them all. It's structure is absolutely amazing and can be seen up close when walking across it. It's also the perfect spot to get some breath taking photos and videos of each side of the city, the river itself and it's bridges that cross it. It's also worth visiting the bridge both during the day and again at night.

A calm within the hustle and bustle of the city. Spent many an hour walking around the island. Stopped for lunch, yes a Langos obviously! Plenty of things to see and unwind.

Really enjoyed the visit and tour. Anna our guide was very good, though a little quiet for deaf git like me. History and story behind this hospital in fascinating. Displays and condition is excellent. Well worth a visit and the fee. Budapest needs to start accept cash instead of card all the time. Cash is king.

Great place, beautiful views, definitely worth visiting. The queues for the Funnical train get long, so arrive early or take one of the many local buses to the top.
