Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My daughter booked this whale watching trip directly through Alaska tales in Juneau during our Norwegian encore cruise to Alaska. They picked us from Juneau cruise docking area. Our crew for this trip were Larry, Steph, Ber. They were knowledgeable regarding whales. Boat was modern. Due to there experience we saw many whales.
    Best company for this activity.
Booking directly is cheaper than through cruise people.

We came to Alaska for a different Spring break vacation than we normally take..warm sunny beaches. At Rod's we ice fished with Trevor, snowmachined with Josh and dogsled with 3 mushers. It was all a great experience and the guides were great at answering questions and were very attentive. They provide all the winter gear and equipment needed. A++

To start off, I'm just going to say, I'm not a hiker. I live below sea level and I'm surrounded by swamp. I do love an adventure and agreed to do this excursion at my son's request. I had no desire to see bears like most people. I just wanted the scenery and sites of the glacier. Where I'm from, its a different level of Jumanji, when walking on trails through the swamp, you have to watch where you are standing, not where you're going, due to snakes, and alligators. In the Tongass Rainforest there's no snakes, ticks or prehistoric size mosquitoes, just bears and about 500 stairs (OK, I'm exaggerating on the stairs, but close to 200 going up) I guess the stairs are famous because there's even a snap chat filter when you reach the top. If you're an avid hiker and are acclimated to gaining elevation, this is your excursion. On the way up, it's a single file line and you have to be aware of your footing in certain spots due to steepness. In some spots there's a railing to keep you from tumbling down the mountain. I'm 5'2" 50 years old and fluffy. I was knees to the chest most of the way up. I'm sure I looked like a struggling hobbit with my walking stick to the experienced local hikers crossing paths. I think it took us about an hour and a half to reach the top of the stairs, then it's back down you go. The path going down is much wider and flat. Our guide, Sophia, was great and very knowledgeable about the rainforest. She loves what she does and it shows. She made several stops throughout the hike to teach us about the flora around us. We ended our hike near the visitor center for the Mendenhall Glacier before walking back to the van. On the day of our excursion, there was a flooding phenomenon known as jokulhlaup, an Icelandic term used to describe the flooding caused by the collection of water in the basin that eventually floods the Mendenhall River. Sophia introduced us to another guide who was there to see the flooding, he explained this phenomenon to us. It was a big event for the locals, everyone seemed to be out looking at the river from the road. I'm glad I did this excursion and I learned a lot about the area. I would definitely recommend this hike; but if you prefer the treadmill over the stairmaster, this probably isn't for you.

A must do experience! Even though we went when it was -24F, we were plenty warm (following the advice of Alaskan Husky Adventures and thanks to the parkas provided). We had an amazing time and made life-long memories. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Awesome trip! Saw lots of whales and sea lions. Chip and Dale were very patient and informative. Highly recommend doing the excursion with them after seeing a ton of people super cramped on the other boats out there. This was a very calm experience.

The views were amazing. We received specific instructions in dressing for the trip. Everyone was professional but fun! Six members of our group white water rafted and two of us were in the calmer water. We all had a great time! Our seven-year-old grandson has made his parents promise to go back in five years when he'll be old enough for the white water trip!

We had the best time at Snowhook Adventure! We did the dog sledding, snow mobile and the overnight stay at Hatcher Pass and it was all incredible! Our guide woke us up in time to see the northern lights. I would highly recommended to anyone!

My whole camera roll is of our heli tour! We did a glacier exploration tour (2hours) where we flew and landed next to the glacier and hiked along the walls. It was absolutely incredible. Michael and Kate were the best pilot/guide we could ask for! We got so lucky with sun & beautiful weather even in the winter! I cannot wait to come back in the summer to experience more of their tours. The helicopter flight and views absolutely do not compete with any other experience. It was worth every penny!!! Would do it again in a heartbeat!

This experience was amazing. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable. They give you plenty of time to pet the dogs and you can even harness them.

This was by far the most memorable part of our trip to Alaska! We dropped the crab pots with the expert help of Captain Andy, and then went fishing while the crab pots sat. He made it so easy for our entire family to catch so many fish that we had to throw some back! We circled back to pick up the crab pots and couldn’t believe that we had caught so many! He was very diligent about being sure we kept the correct crab and was careful to release our excess fish. The adventure continued to camp where we enjoyed our bounty with the most incredible blueberry crumble and campfire coffee on the side. Captain Andy treated me and my kids like family and we loved the adventure! It was a once in a lifetime family- friendly fishing and crabbing adventure.

WOW WOW WOW. The flight was amazing. Flying in and around the mountains the landing on Ruth’s Glacier. A surreal experience. Our Pilot Michael was a joy to fly with. We had booked with another company and they were cancelling all their glacier landings but TAT kept on flying. I wouldn’t consider any other company. I would like to do this again.
