This was our return visit after 4 years and so glad we came back. Ali, our host is as delightful and accommodating as ever. This palace is still in the throws of restoration but the staff make you feel most welcome. An easy walk from Bab Ziat (gate) of the Medina and 15 minute walk t the souk. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful at about $6 US; assorted pastries, juice, tea, coffee, egg, butter, cheese, jam. Our suite included queen bed, plenty of seating/liing area, bath with plenty of hot water. Table and chairs in the courtyard. Stayed 6 nights and we will be back again for sure.

This small synagogue was built in the 17th Cent. by Mimoun Ben Sidan, a wealthy Jewish merchant.
It is located in the Mellah district partof the historic medina of Fes.
Nice restoration work was done in 1999 . Visiting here can help you get a better knowledge of Jewish Heritage in Morroco .
If you are strolling through the Mellah - it is worth to pay a visit .

My Mom and I did a book binding workshop at Craft Draft in Fes with the artisan owner, Hamza. It was so fabulous that now I'm all fired up to go learn how to do coptic stitch book binding back in California. Hamza is such a pleasure to meet that it's worth doing any workshop he offers just so you can talk with him about Morocco. He seriously is one of my favorite people in the world. He's so articulate in English, so thoughtful and funny and such a great artisan. He is very well educated and has a really interesting perspective on Moroccan history, culture and the arts. His wife and friends are lovely -- some of them stopped by during our workshop. Just go to Craft Draft and do one of his workshops. It will be a highlight of your time in Fes. Thank you Hamza!

We spent 4 fantastic days traveling over 1100 kilometers with Boykban Ali from Fez to the Sahara to Marrakech. Ali was friendly and talkative when asked while also giving plenty of space.

I cannot say enough good things about our recent 10 day trip through Morocco Countryside Tours. The communication from the very beginning with Said was prompt, informative, and he patiently answered all of my many questions. The itinerary included everything we wished to do and more. The guides were excellent, very informative and spoke English so well. The accommodations and restaurants that were recommended for lunches were all fine. I highly recommend Countryside for a tour of Morocco.
One recommendation however would be to stay at Chefchaouen, the blue city, two nights, perhaps reducing the desert stay to two days versus three. By the time we reached Chefchaouen, it was after 4pm and we had to leave the next morning for the final tour of the day of the mosque in Casablanca. It left little daylight time to explore the beautiful blue city.

We were fortunate to experience a cusomized tour May 2023 through Best Travel Morocco. Our guide, Siad (sp?), was amazing. He was a wonderful conversationalist, quite flexible with the schedule and shared information about local culture and music. His suggestions for restaurants and museums to visit were spot on. I would 100% ask for him again! Everything we could possible need was considered and accommodated. Siad even found a lovely local winery and arranged for an unscheduled tour. Oh...and did I mention the shopping - tiles, pottery, leather goods, clothing - so many options!

    Itinerary:

May 2nd: We were picked up Tangier ferry port (Sightseeing)
May 3rd: Tangier - Rif Mountains - Drive to Chefchaouen
May 4th: Chefchaouen (Blue City) - Rif Mountains – Fes
May 5th: Fes sightseeing escorted by a local official guide
May 6th: Fes - Volubilis (Roman Empire Ruins) - Moulay Idriss - Meknes – Rabat
    May 7th: Rabat - Casablanca – Marrakech
May 8th: Marrakech sightseeing escorted by a local official guide.
May 9th: Marrakech at leisure - and transfer to airport by Siad

We had an excellent four day tour with Sahara Desert Trips, drive and guided by Yassine starting in Marrakesh. He was a great guide who took the time to show us how local people live - we saw everyday souks and a canal system, for instance. We really appreciate that because it helps us to understand and enjoy our travels more. We understood it better than we would have on a large tour. But we saw all the great sights on the way too - kasbahs, Ait Ben Haddou, Dades Valley Todra Gorge. The dunes at Merzouga are stunning and we were made to feel very welcome at the White Camp for two nights. They arranged a dawn camel ride for us. Finally, Yassine brought us to Fes, showing us more interesting sights on the way (Ifrane is very cool). In addition to explaining the sights and culture to us, Yassine went above and beyond to help us mail home a rug we had bought from a Berber cooperative. In addition to the white camp, everywhere we stayed was clean and comfortable. The food along the whole way was plentiful and delicious. All in all, we think a four night tour is a perfect length of time, given the distances involved, but very few companies offered four nights between Marrakesh and Fes. Anything else would be much too rushed. If you book this tour, we highly recommend you ask for Yassine if possible.

Review of Atlas Safari Morocco tour October/November 2023

Our planned itinerary was very ambitious taking in a vast area and a range of interests. Ismail not only met all our requests but squeezed in additional and sometimes last minute requests. And magicked it all into a trip which opened our eyes to the beauty and complexity of Morocco and better understanding of the different cultures of the country. We were especially keen to learn more about architecture and Berber culture and we were not disappointed. This was the trip of a lifetime.

So we started in Fes in the north, visited the Rif mountains, then down to Rabat and Casablanca, to the desert, the High Atlas, the Atlantic coast and to Marrakesh over 18 days. All this in comfort, staying at beautiful Riads and hotels, eating interesting food and spending time exploring places not easily found by the casual traveller. The guides and drivers were without exception, knowledgeable and really helped us to make sense of the history and background as well as guiding us to less touristy restaurants and cafes. Special mention must be made of Mohammed who went out of his way to help and whose superb driving made even long journeys and jaw dropping roads interesting and fun. And of the staff at Chez Pierre who introduced us to fabulous food and really welcomed us to the joys of a Berber village. And gave us the ultimate hammam experience. Similarly the wonderful Touda eco lodge gave us an insight into how people make a living in remote valleys.

I cannot think of how this trip could have been improved : for me at least it was the trip of a lifetime, cliched though that may sound. We made friends, laughed a lot and shared experiences with a wide range of people. We learned so much about Moroccan and especially Berber culture. Atlas Safari went way beyond what we expected of a tour company and I hope it won’t be long before we travel with them again.

Our first time in Marrakech and Mohammed and his team made sure that we had everything we needed for memorable trip. We covered all the wonderful places inside and outside the Medina. Both Youseff( driver and tour guide) were excellent! They also took us off the usual tourist route. We stopped to buy a tajine at a small village shop and got an amazing deal. Youseff also took us to a restaurant that had the best tajine for sure. Cooks were old grandmas( definitely home food). They also advised us on what to look out for and what was best to stay away from. Good advice!

All in we loved every minute and would definitely go back and have Mohammed and team take us on another wonderful Morrocan adventure 🎈
