It was fun to go to a local market before going to the class, and the Pad Thai and Green Curry I actually make were delicious. It is worth noting that the lecturer's APRIL was charming and the knowledge was great. Our host/teacher was amazing, and was so knowledgeable about all the dishes and ingredients used during the class. The recipes were delicious and easy to follow. We spent the first 30 minutes or so visiting the nearby market, then headed back to the kitchen to prepare our meals. This is the first cooking class that I ever attended and it was really enjoyable (and delicious!). - RobLondon, UK13 contributionsA great experience! Our host (May/Mai) was great, explained everything well, and managed to help our 3 teenage children make amazing dishes. The trip via tuk tuk to the food market was a great touch, and we also filled our baskets of fresh produce we used to cook our meals. The staff does some of the more mundane work (chopping meat, opening containers, etc) but you definitely do all the cooking. Then you make it all and then eat it. It was a great and affordable experience which made the day for us! - Zoë M9 contributionsWe booked this cooking class within our first few days of visiting Thailand and I couldn’t recommend it more! Taking this class early on in our trip taught us about traditional Thai cooking, popular ingredients, and to really appreciate and identify what we would be eating for the next two weeks of our trip! The staff here were incredibly welcoming and their teaching style was fun and attentive. Our class of about 12 people got to go to the market with our teacher and learn about many popular ingredients and walk around for a bit! They gave us fans and baskets to take with us and we had a lot of fun at the market. Once we were back at the classroom, we got complimentary tea and a very informative lesson on all the Thai ingredients we’d be cooking with which was really cool. We loved the cook book and book bag we got to take home with us for keepsakes. The food we cooked was DELICIOUS, interesting, and super authentic. I couldn’t recommend this class more to anyone visiting Thailand as it sets you up to appreciate the local flavors during your stay. - Tourist34776878318Japan1 contributionI chose Angsana's class because of previous reviews and because I was looking for a small class. In the end I was on my own, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I chose 3 dishes and we went to the local market to buy the ingredients; walking around the market and asking lots of questions was fascinating for me. Angsana was easy going and easy to talk with; this was a very relaxing day for me. Her home is beautiful and I learned a lot in the time I was there, about cooking, about Thailand, about certain aspects of Thai culture. We cooked everything from scratch and so I was there probably 5 hours or more, but much of that is due to me talking too much. Ate a lot, talked a lot, and Angsana is a fountain of knowledge. - Anthony LTarpon Springs, FL328 contributionsOf course learning to prepare our own Thai meal was a great education and experience. What was most impressive is the mission. Watching Dwight gently guide his student "chef" explain and teach was something that only comes from the heart. We selected this experience as an offering from our Holland America cruise. It is clear that CK provides these refugee young people with the professional skills to compete in the employment market.
