Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Temple of Literature is a monument to Confucius and Vietnam's first university. It is a vast site situated in central Hanoi. There is a small charge that can only be paid by cash. The temple is a series of courtyards each with pavilions, halls and statues. There is plenty of information on the history of the university, how the exam system worked and the monarch's role in assessing student. There is a small cafe near to one of the courtyards.

Hoan Kiem lake is truly the heart of Hanoi- beautiful to walk around. For a tourist it is an easy meeting place with the hop on hop off bus ticket office right there. Very close to the water puppet theatre and multiple coffee shops and stores.

We were blown away by the rich cultural exhibits at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. The outdoor displays of traditional houses were a highlight, offering a glimpse into Vietnam's diverse heritage. Perfect for anyone who love history and culture!

you have to find a local store to buy a drink first if you wanna enter to the train street, otherwise the police won’t let you in, a good experience and the price is affordable tho

Had a lovely early morning at the Tran Quoc Pagoda. Very peaceful place before the loads of tourists start coming in.

Nice place to visit, away from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi centre. The Pagoda lasted 2 World Wars and a piece of Hanoi history. A must see when you are in town.

A nice temple celebrating a Vietnamese general who fought the Chinese in the Middle Ages. The buildings and figurines are very fine as is the architecture. The temple is surronded by a lake and accesible via a nice bridge. One of the must sees in Hanoi.

This was a private tour day trip for me, leaving from Hanoi. Duong Lam is a one & half hours from Hanoi.
Arrived round 9.00 am . As o hired a driver not a guide I took myself off to explore. There is an entry fee of 20 thousand Dong , you get a map.
    How hard can this be!
I wandered round for a few hours discovering some interesting places and had a delicious custard apple smoothie.
In reality it would have been better to have a guided tour. I’m sure I missed highlights my map reading isn’t great.
There is a buggy takes people about the highlights of the village . Worth considering
I had lunch there as well not enjoyable either .
However I’m pleased with the overall experience

Very picturesque with a peaceful atmosphere. There is a small shrine and display at the northern end of the lake that houses the two giant turtles that lived in the lake.

At night the shrine in the middle of the lake is lit up and the streets that surround the lake are cordoned off to vehicles and becomes a walking street.

Once that happens the atmosphere turns into a combination of romance and energy as they're many street vendors and couples littered through the lake.

Went as part of a private tour. This is very much a locals location. So we felt honoured to be just a few of the westerners up the mountain. The walk up to Ho Chi Minh is over 1200 evenly sized steps, so although a lot, it is very achievable.
The temple and pagoda and views (if the clouds break), are beautiful.
abandoned church down the mountain was amazing.
Definitely worth a visit. A spectacular day out. One of my highlights of 5 week visit to Vietnam.

My wife and I took the overnight Lotus Train from Da Nang to Ninh Binh. We were in the VIP room for 2. This is the second time I've taken Lotus Train, and both times, the ride was enjoyable and the service really good. We enjoyed eating the snacks provided in the room--and most importantly, are grateful for the car attendant who was a big help because my wife's existing fever (got sick in Da Nang) got seriously high and the attendant, Mr. Duy, brought a cooler filled with warm water and a cloth. He gently placed it on her forehead and showed me how to change it every 5 minutes. At the end, it was helpful as her fever came down. Thank you Mr. Duy! I should mention that communications with Lotus Train management was easy and quick. If you want a fun overnight trip (why fly when you can sleep on a train), take Lotus Train.

The puppet show is roughly an hour long - we choose not to have audio translation devices and we're easily able to follow along with the story and enjoy the show.
If you have children, make sure you grab the seat booster as you walk in yo take your seats.
