  • The ranking of tours, activities, and experiences available on Tripadvisor is determined by several factors including the revenue generated by Tripadvisor from these bookings, the frequency of user clicks, and the volume and quality of customer reviews. Occasionally, newly listed offerings may be prioritized and appear higher in the list. The specific placement of these new listings may vary.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great experience and our guide (Ramesh) was excellent. He explained everything as we went. We were so full by half way that we found it difficult (and a bit embarrassing) not to be able to finish the lovely prepared food. Next time we wont eat anything before we go!!

We’ve just completed a 12day tour of Sri Lanka with Janaka, our driver/guide.

From the moment we met to the moment we left to come back home to the UK, our experience with Janaka was great.

A kind, charming and warm-hearted person that I would thoroughly recommend.

Despite our flights being severely delayed, Janaka patiently waited for us and got us to our first destination safely.

He is a safe, trustworthy and reliable driver. Our car was comfortable, spacious, and always kept clean.

We had pre-planned our itinerary before we arrived and had booked our accommodation. Janaka arranged several great safaris for us. Doing this had benefits vs us booking it ourselves. For instance, Janaka came with us on the private safaris and was able to clearly communicate with drivers. This made for a better experience. We ended up seeing 50 elephants in our trip around Dambulla. And we were pleased to spot a leopard, bear, eagle and many animals at Yala national park.

Our itinerary was 3nights Dambulla, 1night Kandy, 2nights Ella, 1 night Yalla, and 4nights at relaxing beach locations in the South.

There were a few days where we didn’t need the car, but having one for the whole trip is very convenient.

Janaka introduced us to several local fruits, stopped for photo opportunities and gave us suggestions for our itinerary.

Communication through Whatsapp was great and easy.

Overall, we had the best experience in Sri Lanka, and would recommend Janaka to anyone. We would love to return one day.

We had the pleasure of meeting Schaffee Passela, the new restaurant manager at the restaurant of the Mandarina Hotel in Colombo. He looked after our needs all the time. We also had a lot of interesting conversations with him at breakfast and dinner times. The breakfast buffet was quite good and varied.
We also would like to mention Mohamed Hiras, the F&B Executive, who was very pleasant to speak to.

The driver was on time and the car was very comfortable. Saffron 21 Spice Grove was the first stop, and the tour, given by a student of natural medicine, was very well done. A "free" herbal oil massage was offered (and it was very good), but I was strongly urged to tip afterward (which was fine and I did).

Unfortunately, things took a sour note when the shop I was taken to after the tour tried very aggressively to push me to spend. I was interested in some of the remedies, but they were always trying to push me to buy the biggest bottle and never telling me there were smaller ones until I said they were too expensive. And when I decided I just wanted a few small bottles to try, the staff immediately turned from very friendly to stone-faced.

    That place reeked of dishonesty.

The driver then took me to an elephant "sanctuary" which was not mentioned in the online description I read when I made the booking. I have always been skeptical about these "sanctuaries", and when I realised that even feeding and patting the elephants would cost LKR5,000, I said no.

Luckily, the Geragama Estate as a pleasant experience. The in-house guide and all the staff were helpful and friendly, and the tour was informative but not too long or overloaded. After a complimentary cup of tea and very delicious biscuits, I was allowed to browse the tea shop leisurely (in contrast to the pushy experience at Saffron 21), and prices are reasonable (although there are also premium varieties one is free to splurge on). I ended up spending much more at the tea shop than I did at the herbal/spice shop.

I wish the tour would include a quick stroll up to the plantations. I only had enough time to look at them from the foot of the hill.

There was no lunch arrangement, and by the time I was back in the hotel, it was almost 5pm. It was a long day to last without anything to eat after breakfast. It would have been nice to have a quick stop for a bite in the afternoon, even if it's just a quick roti.
