We were here on an early Saturday morning. It was quite busy but in a good way. People were walking, exercising and sunbathing as well. Our hotel, Berjaya was right beside the beach and we had an over-bridge to reach the beach from our hotel (there was a train track under the bridge). There were a few restaurants that were literally on the beach itself.

It's a fairly long beach. There were some watersports activities happening. I remember jet skiing. Although, we didn't do any.

During our tuktuk tour, we briefly stopped here to take some pictures. It was quite hot, like 90 degrees when we visited, so just a brief visit here. Will try visit again late in the pm to enjoy its views and ambience.

The temple is praised for its elaborate architecture, including a stunning main entrance and intricate carvings. Some reviewers mention its significance as a Buddhist pilgrimage site, believed to have been visited by the Buddha himself. Many visitors find the temple serene and calming, a great place for prayer and reflection. The large reclining Buddha statue is a popular attraction, along with the dagoba (stupa) and the sacred bo tree. There's also a museum on the premises. As with any religious site in Sri Lanka, it's respectful to cover your shoulders and knees. Maintain silence while devotees are praying, and be mindful of your actions while exploring the temple grounds. If you want to avoid crowds, consider going on a weekday or earlier in the day. Be aware that some ceremonies might limit access to certain areas. Overall, Kelaniya Temple seems to be a popular destination for both pilgrims and tourists, offering a beautiful space for cultural immersion and spiritual reflection.

Nice shops, bars and restaurants are there. But I felt that all are formal rather than live and buzzing happy go lucky atmosphere is missing.

The Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque is a stunning architectural marvel, offering an awe-inspiring glimpse into spiritual and cultural richness. The intricate design and vibrant colors of the mosque make it a must-visit. However, the experience was slightly marred by unclear information regarding opening hours, causing some confusion during the visit. A clearer schedule would enhance the visitor experience significantly.

Located near the Lotus Tower, we visited this Hindu Temple next. Like any Hidu temples, we were asked to take off our shoes as soon as we entered the compound. I thought we would only take off our shoes when we enter inside the temples.

We hurriedly took some pictures here and left. The ground is rough and hot for us to take off our shoes outside of the temples.

After visiting the Gangaramaya Buddhist Temple, we visited this attraction. There is a statue here infront of an old structure with beautiful mouldings. Some locals were noted chilling out here. Another big white building is in the vicinity, perhaps the Assembly Hall. Took several photos here and enjoyed our visit.

Accross from the above structures is a wide open field where locals are practising their games.

I addition to visting temples and mosques, we also visited some Catholic Churches in Colombo. This was one of them. There were two policemen who checked our bags before entering the church. I guessed this was a precautionary measure against any future bomb attack of this church.

There are some scalfoldings inside the church to what appeared to be repairing stained glass windows. Briefly said our prayers here before leaving.

We arrived by train and went to this street market from the railway station. It was a bit shocking for me at first. Noise, heavy traffic, hot (35 degrees) and lots of different things. It was chaotic, but later we found a calmer part. I think it’s an interesting local experience and everything is cheaper than the hotel shops.

Having visited several religous sites during the TukTuk Tour and alreay feeling hot and tired,
I was turned off when sevral staff approached us as we got off our tuktuk. They insisted that we take off our shoes as we walked towards the temples. The ground was hot and I did not feel like walking barefoot all the way to the entrance of the temples and their interiors.

I briefly took pictures of the exteriors of the temples, the gate, etc. and left in a hurry. Perhaps, I’ll visit it again in the early morning and set my mind about walking barefoot. May be NOT.

I noted the presence of both the new and old parts of Colombo here: For the old parts, there are the Clock Tower, the Memorial, etc. For the new ones, there are the modern commercial buildings such as the Twin Towers Banks and Government Offices.

I enjoyed my visit here. Highly recommended to visit it!

This is the place where the president of Sri Lanka address on the Independence day. It is open on all days. The is also a museum which is currently closed due to covid. The entrance fee is free for all but I think there is a fee to enter the museum.

While in the Old Fort Area, my Tuktuk Driver pointed out this building to me. He said that this was where the members of the parliament meet or the equivalent of Congress in Washington, DC. Noted some statues of prominent perons in front of this building. Was told not open to tourists.
