I love this interesting market & it has everything. A foodies dream. The sign says Run De Li Market - Rundeli Cai Shichang) but its known locally as Sihuan Market as Sihuan Hutong wraps around the market. Its open from 7am in the morning until early evening ( about 7pm).
Its a traditional neighborhood market and you wont see many foreigners or tour groups. I usually enter via the Deshengmen Nei Dajie entrance. The market is big and broken up into various areas. if you enter via the entrance I use you will come across a little line up of glassed in booths with people selling Dry goods like rice / grains, spices & pastes. Or snacks like Jian Bing - Kind of a stuffed & rolled pancake with a bit of crunch and delicious fillings. If you see someone making very thin crepes (pancakes) on a big spinning hot disk give them a try ( not to be missed). I have added a photo of what to look for.
There is a big undercover areas of all sorts of fresh fruit and vegetables, more dry goods with spices etc, blue duck eggs, teas, nuts. Also general clothing and bits & pieces.
The separate seafood and meat buildings are a treasure trove. The amount of different seafood is mind boggling with tanks of live seafood, containers of different fish and shell fish, turtles & frogs. People on motor bikes meandering up & down isles rather than by foot. There are all sorts of meats.
Dont eat lunch before you go - lots of traditional Beijing style snack food here. Pork Buns, Noodles, Youtiao, Tofu, Jian Bing and sweet cakes and breads. .
Its easy to get to, just off Deshengmen Nei Dajie in Xicheng. You can walk there from Hou Hai lake - takes about 20 to 25 minutes to get to the market by foot ( or get a taxi). This is a great walk to do and you will see a lot: Follow the west side of the lake around via Houhai Nanyan and it will branch off but keep going straight ahead down Yangfang Hutong. Yangfang Hutong kind of meanders along but keep going until you reach Deshengmen Nei & turn left & cross to the other side of the road and you will come to a market entrance ( hence the number of people exiting with loaded shopping bags). If you are exiting the market after the meat section you will come to Luoer Hutong which is also a sort of food area with all sorts of goodies & restaurants to try. From here its a 15 minute walk to Xinjiekou Subway station.
