It’s a strange one this review because religious buildings are all the same. They are ornate, elaborate and in many instances a display of wealth. However, this is not so much in the same league. It’s very dark inside and hard to get a true sense of all the art work. It would definitely benefit from some additional lighting. I think it actually looks better from the outside than inside. Just my view but you should have a look when you’re here.

A must do when in Sofia is to go to Vitosha mountain, it surrounds Sofia from the south and overlooks it, you can take the metro Vitosha line or the tram no 10 Vitosha line to the end station and then get the bus no 66 to the top of the mountain directly with an amazing ride in-between the trees till the snowy top, enjoy the fresh air and the charming views.

If it was in another country I might only flag this as average but in Sofia itself it is a good place to hang out, sit in one of the many cafes/bars and people watch. We tried a couple of the restaurants along this boulevard either for lunch or evening meal and generally the service is okay; you need to ask for your food to be hot as the locals prefer to eat their food 'cool' as we found out, and try to find somewhere you can avoid the smoking as it's quite constant. Service is not great and reading reviews we found out it is quite well known for poor service compared to what you might be used to but if you're not in a hurry then stop by here. It is quite 'buzzy' in the evenings but we actually preferred an area at the far end of Vitosha Boulevard (if you are walking from the National Palace of Culture) which is near the Oborishte neighbourhood (and the Rila Hotel) where they have some lovely bars and restaurants and the more affluent locals seem to frequent. This side of the centre is where some of the cultural points of interest are too.

This was a beautiful church. You can also go inside although visit would be quite short as the church is not large; we didn't as our 15 year old would be bored. Lovely to visit though and sit outside admiring it and nice morning out away from the city itself.

A service was in progress when I entered as a tourist and the sight of it took my breath away. There was color and light everywhere. If I'd knows, I'd have shown up earlier for the whole service!

Walking up to this mountain is a feat in itself. I was alone and fell over once and tripped a number of times. It is best to go with more than one person! I am physically fit but going up this hill really tired me out a lot I nearly gave up! It is extremely beautiful but if you are old and not good with mobility please do not go up to this waterfall it is very dangerous walking up!!

perfect architecture indeed, specially the façade, one of the most important landmarks of Sofia, with a very pleasant park surrounding, the park itself is very relaxing and worth a while to sit and enjoy

This museum is absolutely brilliant. Far far better than we could have imagined. Some of the exhibits are awe inspiring. World class artefacts. Definitely worth a visit.

I walked through this massive park on a Sunday and it was packed. It's good to see the locals out enjoying life. It's a nice park with plenty of activities you can partake in.

This church has a tiny nave, but it is a nice place to sit and consider the life of Saint George. The ruins in the back are worth walking through. The ruins serve a double function as a place that people go to talk or just sit for awhile. I highly recommend stopping by.

This museum houses many beautiful artefacts from Bulgaria's fascinating history, and context is provided by copious written introductions to each section / era. The building itself (late Eastern Bloc brutalist?) is worth a visit in itself, but as it sits at the foot of gorgeous Vitosha mountain it's outside the centre of Sofia. My one negative would be that staff on duty followed my group very closely and stared at us for the duration of our visit. A very uncomfortable experience. Also, the exhibitions were largely silent on Bulgarian involvement in WW2. But this doesn't distract from an interesting museum in a beautiful building.

Built during socialism, it is the largest congress center in Southeast Europe. It is now used mainly for cultural events. The building is very interesting and the place is always very lively.
