Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- cdandoyGilbert, AZ923 contributionsMy favorite thing in Alexandria. Really enjoyed walking through and it had such great views. This was the original location of the lighthouse. Not much signage so I'm glad I was with a guide.Written 12 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- John KPerth, Australia329 contributionsWe only visited the exterior of the Palace, the beach and the gardens. The gardens are stunning and extensive. Well worth a look.Written 12 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- smvNYCNew York City, NY357 contributionsThe monastery is located some distance from Alexandria and getting there was an adventure in itself Google Maps was surprisingly good).
The site is of significant importance to Christians as it hosts the relics of St. Minas. The place was busy with local tour groups. There is no entrance fee and the grounds were decorated with beautiful paintings and mosaics. There are also vendor booths with both religious items and local foods.Written 28 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was well worth going down into the tombs and seeing the intricate architecture below. Definitely try to make it here while you're in Alexandria!Written 20 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tony CBedford, UK1,143 contributionsAs other people have outlined this is not near anywhere on the rod between Alexandria and Cairo. But if you get the opportunity it is certainly worth a visit - would only delay your journey by 90 minutes or so.
We were shown round by one of the residents who provided an excellent informative soundtrack to the history and also present day life in the monastery. He answered all questions he could and clearly enjoyed his time with his audience.
A fascinating and enjoyable detourWritten 10 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Worth the small entry price and challenging walk.Written 31 March 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
