Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

    Happy elephants
Spent like 4 hours at the shelter

They came to us to eat
We fed them parsnip and water melon

The guide took plenty of photos for us he was really funny too

And then we chopped leaves for them and made banana nutritious food with vitamins and fed an elephant

I really enjoyed bathing them. That's when I felt the biggest connection

The elephant were calm and friendly and funny.

I wish I had more time

Went to Zoo to see how the animals were, this place wasn’t too expensive as some places can be quite expensive.
We hopped on a bus in the safari park and was taken around he park showing us the fallow deer and lions and cheetahs and tigers as well as a sport where we stopped to feed them and the giraffe who decided it was easier to put his head inside the bus to get all the food LOL much to the amusement of the children in the bus. The animals are well versed with the routine so if you want to get fed you come up to the bus to get the food otherwise you miss out, After the bus ride we walked around the other part of the zoo to look at many other smaller animals such as goats, macaw bid, meerkats and some younger cats that were in a seperate arrears and which you could feed as well. Wasn’t too bad a day here. For Farang its 300 baht each. Thai people pay less,

We drove to Taweechai Elephant Camp and first impression - very laid back place. There is no entry fee, you can pet and stroke the elephants and leave with no further commitments. Or pay 20baht for a basket of bananas to feed the elephants. There are 30 elephants on the ground from 2m old babies (held with their moms) to adult ones used for rides. As the elephants look well treated we decided to pay for the ride. It was 600baht per person for 30min around the camp including a quick dip in the river (if you want to bathe with the elephant it is a different price). It was quite an experience, the Trainers were quite gentle with the elephants. And the extra perk - Super friendly lazy cats that let you cuddle.

If You are animal fan, and you are close to Kanchanaburi, you should go! Especially good for kids, animals are tamed and calm, and the park is really nice, huge and green.

We had such an incredible day. Truly a once in a lifetime experience. We rode the elephants bareback and then went in the river with them.

I’ve gone through the reviews for this place (after the fact as we came here via tour group) and it seems that the facility has been responsive to feedback to a degree.

We did not notice any wounds on the animals and they did seems to be somewhat happy. We were not asked to buy food to feed them as they seemed able and happy to eat as we walked (actually very fun to have them eat while we rode)! We were happy they seemed properly fed.

There were bamboo sticks with hooks (which we did not like) BUT I only saw them use the soft end of the bamboo stick to encourage the elephant to move. I wasn’t watching the whole time but I did not ever see them use the hook end. Our guide also took lots of video and in the video the sharp end wasn’t used. My recommendation would be to eliminate the hook all together as most tourist feel uneasy about that.

The elephants not being ridden were chained which made me sad but they at least had an umbrella. I didn’t feel a concern until we were in the water and we had to stand on the elephant’s head. They seemed distressed about it and my husband and I asked to stop a bit early because we didn’t like the commands and tricks they were making the elephants do.

Overall it was an incredible experience. I think this place has come a LONG way with wonderful improvements since some of the earlier reviews. I hope they continue to accept feedback to improve the quality of care for these creatures.

OTHER: the shower facilities were nice and clean and everyone was kind and friendly and helpful.

We did not stay to watch the elephant show as we did not want to support that in any way.

The fact how much you will enjoy this activity depends on how do you see riding on tamed elephants. This was my first experience and I liked it. At the same time, I think it takes some effort to tame the elephants and I bet that force needs to be used. I didn't enjoy hearing shouting on the animals.
So to sum it up, you need to know how would you approach this dilemma that I had. If you won't have any, then no problem for you.
