We found great results, but some are outside Gifu Prefecture. Showing results in neighbouring cities.
Limit search to Gifu Prefecture.
Our family of four, including 2 kids who had the wonderful experience of seeing snow for their first time, spent a total of ~6 glorious hours up in the mountains!
It's quite easy to get up there, you can buy the package tour round trip that including Onsen or you can buy the ticket vending machine beside Family Mart.

Well worth the visit, an easy half hour walk from town, and some really family friendly activities near the entrance (free parasol rental, bamboo water 'pistols', traditional tops, feeding the swans & carp).
The Hida village has a wonderful collection of buildings from the surrounding area, as well as workshops with traditional crafts, and interactive games and displays for the kids.
Gorgeous flowers in summer, huge open grassy fields, a chance for kids to play in the water and catch a fish with their hands, and great ice cream.
Easy cycling, even for novices and families.
Wander along its banks, perhaps spying a Koi and enjoy children playing along it.
The Museum Meiji-mura Inuyama 30.6 mi away
There are places to eat and take breaks with a nice mix of things for both adults and children.
Our kids ranged from 6 through 12 and all were happily engaged, either shopping or playing down by the river.
This is a wonderful experience for the whole family.
