For local sights, we found the sightseeing buses, Kanazawa Loop Bus and Kenrokuen Shuttle were great at 500yen for a day pass.
... station is awesome very modern and seats seats seats, there are seats in the waiting room and they are comfy to sit on while you wait for a train or just having a rest before marching on to the tourist sites.

Big moss bed under all the big trees, main shrine hidden in a cave, and observatory deck to view all the different coloured autumn leaves that made this little shrine a real hidden gem.

Tsuzumi Gate Kanazawa
The gate has to be the most- photographed site in Kanazawa, thanks to its imposing nature and its location at the train station.
This gate is one of the first architectural sites you'll see when visiting Kanazawa, since it is located at one of the exits of the train station.

Myoryuji - Ninja Temple Kanazawa
They have an orange (clockwise) and green (counter-clockwise) buses that are loop buses that come every 15 minutes that go in a big loop around Kanazawa and hits most of the tourist sites.
The look-out gives view of nearby plains and could be used to transmit signals to and from Kanazawa castle (uploaded on my wall).
