It is beautiful in every season, offers an great view of the whole surrounding area, and is one of my favorite spots in Japan!
On the way up there are a couple of souvenir shops but the best part of the climb is the ever widening views across beautiful countryside to distant hills.
The town itself is interesting, with samurai street and castle ruins, yet the most impressive sights are about 6km out of the town (taking a bus, bike or a taxi necessary).
You get a map with the way around the different sites.
They even have special loos for kids which look like camp sites.
While it was raining, but the route offers scenic drive all the way across mountains and sea-view as well as part of rural residential and padi fields.
Greenery view of mt Yufu, clear water lake, theme shop....spend 2 days in this town, dont forget soak your body in their famous onsen.
Rakanji Temple Nakatsu
Wonderful view - easy to get to the temple and top of the hill with the help on short journey ride on the cable car.
Well worth visiting for sake of peace and quiet, providing time for contemplation, and the wonderful views over the surrounding aba-Hita-Hikosan National Park.
Small lake with different great view at different time
They offer great views of the nature.
Lovely breathtaking views and felt fearless and a great sense of accomplishment once completed.
The bridge was impressive and you can take in great view of the area when walking across the bridge.
wow what a view, its amazing especially if you get there on a clear day you can see the city.
The cable car to the top of the mountain takes about 10 mins, and provides nice views over Beppu and the bay.
Nakatsu Castle Nakatsu
Therefore, the top of the castle overlooked great view of the river.
Then there are some stunning gardens to walk around and enjoy the view.
Blood pool with a view
However once up there, You can see all the hot steam coming out of the houses and also a great view of the mountain and city.
