Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, despite its extensive name, is memorable due to its unique character. I reached it by crossing the Italian Bridge, situated midway on my route from Nevsky Prospect.

Notably, this church is a standout landmark in the city. Constructed in the late 19th century under Alexander III's directive, it marks the assassination site of Alexander II by revolutionaries in 1881. The church's interior is renowned for its expansive mosaic collection, covering over 7,500 square meters – one of the world's largest. To explore this historical marvel, visitors pay an entry fee of 250 Rubles.

We went to this church as it was being used to bless food offerings made by the rich to be donated to the poor. They were preparing the large Easter event with lights and other elements. The inside of the Church of the Spilled Blood is a total contrast.

While considering the name one could expect a more lavish and decorated bridge, Palace bridge is in fact a simple one connecting the Vasileysky island with the mainland close by the Winter Palace.
I suggest crossing it, as from both sides you'll capture amazing downtown views. We did that walking from the Peter and Paul's fortress to Hermitage.
Another prime attraction is coming here around 1.30 AM. All bridges in downtown St. Pet are drawing bridges to allow vessels pass beneath them.
We did that 2 nights in row, but unfortunately it did not happen so we left disappointed with many others. It seems drawing times are not guaranteed.

The Church if canonized St. Xenia is superb. The cemetery visitors and people with prayer that come here makes this a great place to visit.

It is the original citadel of St. Petersburg, Russia, founded by Peter the Great in 1703 and built to Domenico Trezzini's designs from 1706 to 1740 as a star fortress.Between the first half of the 1700s and early 1920s it served as a prison for political criminals. It has been a museum since 1924.

Tsarsko Selo (Tsar Village) is a Royal complex Peter the Great built for his wife Catherine I, later enlarged and lavishly decorated by Catherine II (the Great).
It consists of a breathtaking Palace, terrific gardens with lakes, Hermitage pavilion, a Mosque, monuments across the park,...etc.
It's located further south of St. Pet airport and you can reach it by taxi (make sure you have the Yandex app installed) which will take around 45-60 min depending on the traffic, or via the train from St, Pet.
The area is huge and beautiful to explore, so count on at least half a day for visit.

I love old neighborhoods, but I'm not interested in history
During my trip to St. Petersburg, there was only one place where I walked for hours and it became the best place in the world for me.
On a rainy day, walk on Nevsky Street with an umbrella and get hot coffee from the shops and stay on the street until late at night. Go on a boat ride with a Russian shawarma sandwich and see the bridges open and you will definitely fall in love with St. Petersburg. .
But remember that residents of the Middle East get cold in the Russian summer. Goodbye Nevsky, hope to see you again

Part of the Hermitage complex, it has a huge collection of paintings. Some nice Monet, Picasso, Kandinsky etc. you need at least two hours to visit. Tickets can be purchased online (specific time slot is assigned). Highly recommended to visit if you are in the area.

Even though the weather wasn’t kind, (somewhat expected in September I believe 😉), really enjoyed the opportunity to view the city from above. Deanna was great allowing me to pick her brain on all things Russian, as well as the history of St Petersburg. Broke up a gloomy day perfectly.
