Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Cassie HCalgary, Canada1,082 contributionsNow that’s what you call opulence. We spent half a day here and I felt like we barely scratched the surface. I’m definitely glad we spent some time outside in the gardens as I think I preferred the exterior to the interiorWritten 24 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cassie HCalgary, Canada1,082 contributionsCompared to Church of our Saviour on Spilled Blood I preferred its exterior. However, St Isaac’s was my favourite on the inside. It was breathtaking. Similar to the other, I did feel too rushed here. I also found this one busier.Written 26 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cassie HCalgary, Canada1,082 contributionsThat was magnificent. I found where all the gold went. We visited in the evening so it wasn’t very crowded. Loved seeing the amber room and really enjoyed the musical performance at the conclusion of our visitWritten 24 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Craig CConcord, CA24 contributionsVery enchanting look at the different regions of Russia. Great detail went into the buildings, bridges, etc. The facility is 800 m2 of beauty. The display even changes the lighting to simulate day and night. The transition is breath taking. It takes a small army of technicians to make the whole thing work. Working trains, moving cars on the highways, and many other moving displays make this a very relaxing way to spend a couple hours. Good for adults and kids will love it too.Written 26 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

The main building of the museum is located in the Mikhailovsky Palace in the center of St. Petersburg.
The museum was created by personal decree of Emperor Nicholas II on April 13, 1895. The official opening of the museum took place on March 7, 1898.
Of particular note is the collection of icons in the section of ancient Russian art, which presents works by Andrei Rublev, Dionisy, Simon Ushakov and other remarkable Russian masters.
In the collection of works of fine art of the 18th - the first half of the 19th centuries, paintings by Fyodor Bruni, Karl Bryullov and Dmitry Levitsky make an unforgettable impression.
In the collection of the second half of the 19th century, it is difficult to look away from almost all the works, but I was most struck by the paintings of Ivan Aivazovsky, Ilya Repin, Viktor Vasnetsov and Vasily Surikov.
The collection of the late 19th century - early 20th century also has a whole scattering of wonderful works, but pay special attention to the works of Valentin Serov, Mikhail Vrubel, Konstantin Somov and Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin.
In general - go and enjoy the beautiful works of Russian art!Written 20 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gus WoltmannParis, France69 contributionsVisiting Peterhof with my family was a delightful escape into the splendor of Russian imperial history and breathtaking landscapes. Located just outside Saint Petersburg, Peterhof is renowned for its majestic palace complex and stunning gardens, often referred to as the "Russian Versailles."
Our journey to Peterhof began with a scenic boat ride along the Neva River, offering picturesque views of Saint Petersburg's waterfront and surrounding landmarks. Arriving at Peterhof, we were greeted by the impressive Grand Cascade, a monumental fountain ensemble that serves as the centerpiece of the palace grounds.
Exploring the palace interiors was like stepping back in time to the era of Peter the Great and subsequent Russian monarchs. The opulence and grandeur of the palace rooms, adorned with intricate decorations, gilded ceilings, and priceless artworks, provided a glimpse into the lavish lifestyle of the Russian aristocracy.
One of the highlights of our visit was strolling through the meticulously manicured Lower Gardens, dotted with numerous fountains, statues, and flowerbeds. The playful Water Avenue, with its whimsical fountains that surprise and delight visitors, was particularly enchanting for our children.
The Upper Gardens offered tranquil pathways shaded by ancient trees and charming pavilions, providing moments of serenity amidst the grandeur. The views overlooking the Gulf of Finland from the Upper Gardens were breathtaking, offering a panoramic vista of the palace complex and surrounding landscapes.
A visit to Peterhof wouldn't be complete without witnessing the Grand Cascade in action. As we stood mesmerized by the cascading water and golden statues, accompanied by classical music, we appreciated the engineering marvel and artistic beauty that defines Peterhof.
Throughout our visit, we were impressed by the accessibility and amenities provided for visitors, including informative guides, convenient facilities, and opportunities to learn about Peterhof's history through exhibitions and audio guides.
Sharing this experience with my family created lasting memories as we explored the palace, gardens, and grounds together. We enjoyed picnicking on the lawns, taking leisurely walks, and capturing photos amidst the stunning backdrop of Peterhof's architecture and natural beauty.
In conclusion, visiting Peterhof was a captivating journey through Russia's imperial past, offering a blend of history, artistry, and natural splendor that appealed to all generations. It's a destination that showcases the country's cultural heritage and artistic achievements in a way that's both educational and deeply enriching. For families and travelers alike, Peterhof remains a must-see attraction when visiting Saint Petersburg, promising a memorable and immersive experience in Russian history and culture.Written 14 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Certainly exceeded my imagination and perception about art with clever, fun and surprising designs!
The location was easily accessible, the excursions was affordable and took approx. less than one hour. Definitely worth visiting!
Visit in the shadow museum can be easily combined with Hermitage, Russian state museum or Faberge museum etc. because of the close proximity.
Lastly, the museum has hilarious “merch” that can be bought from the reception.Written 28 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Adjacent to the palace is the Pavlovsk Park with an area of about 600 hectares, which makes it one of the largest landscape parks in Europe.
Pavlovsk Palace, the summer residence of Emperor Paul I, is the centerpiece of it. It was erected in 1782-1786 according to the project of the Scottish architect Charles Cameron in the form of a suburban Palladian villa. In 1788, Pavel, who preferred Gatchina as a residence, presented the village of Pavlovskoye to his wife Maria Fedorovna. With the accession of Paul I in November 1796 and the subsequent resignation of Cameron, the Italian architect Vincenzo Brenna was appointed chief architect of the Court. At the insistence of Emperor Brenn, he increased the size of the palace to give it greater majesty by building on the second floor and attaching two new semicircular outbuildings to it. The formation of the collections of the interior of the Pavlovsk Palace is associated with the journey of Paul and his wife across Europe in 1781-1782. After the death of Paul I, the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna practically moved to this palace. She made a will according to which Pavlovsk was to pass after her death into the possession of "the eldest son, bypassing the heir", and then be inherited through the male line, which meant that he turned from the imperial residence into a majorate.
Since June 1918, the Pavlovsk Palace and the park have been transformed into a state museum. This world heritage masterpiece is protected by UNESCO.Written 20 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
