Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

High yield tour of Kyoto’s biggest hits with delightful tour guide Nanami. Everything is structured to maximize efficiency yet at the same time once you are at each destination, you are free to visit the site so you are not forced to be with the group the entire time. Lunch was at a buffet restaurant over a gift shop at Arashiyama — this does not sound all that great on paper but was surprisingly tasty with a good variety of local speciality dishes. Air conditioned bus was comfortable and Nanami happily provided just enough information about each site without overloading us. Highly recommend this tour, especially if your time in Kyoto is limited.

We did the secret Kyoto bike tour based on a recommendation from a friend. We absolutely loved it! Michael, our tour guide was friendly, very informative and entertaining. We even had time to fit in an extra stop (pro tip - arrive on time to increase chance of being able to fit it in, well worth it). Wish we had done the tour earlier in our trip as the cultural information that we learned was super helpful! Highly recommend.

I’m so glad we did this on our first morning in Kyoto. It was such a great introduction to the city and oriented us to where everything was and how to get around on public transit. Definitely recommend the early tour. Our guide Tomo was AWESOME! Honestly, the best part of the tour was just learning about Japanese culture from someone who lives and studies in Kyoto. He even sent us a list of other things to do in the area we were staying after the tour.

We decided we should start every city visit with a tour like this. But it’ll be hard to find a tour guide as good as Tomo.

Great experience! There are options for the people who don’t eat meat. The instructor was very kind and knowledgeable. My friends and I had a blast making ramen. It was delicious! I recommend this tour 100%

Our guide was Lucy, it turned out that she is actually a New Yorker who has been studying in Kyoto since 18 months. Actually it turned out be great - not only as the communication was easy - but also she were able to provide us an unique perspective. She tailor made the tour as we requested, even during the day we were able to adjust and modify (we went mostly to places which had less tourist). Thanks Lucy for sharing your personal experience and observations on Japan.

We decided to get into Gion district first time togheter Kentaro. He is very passionate and capable to create a pleasant experience for all the guests. In a group of nine people we touched some important points of 2 different districts. Even if we were well informed about geiko and maiko, this tour allows you to discover many other interest things about the life and work of geiko and maiko in Kyoto. We had dinner with maiko. We had a lot of time to interact with her asking many questions. The maiko was very nice and it was a unique occasion to get into her life. She danced for us. The dinner too was really good tasting many dishes and the restaurant very nice and intimate.
    Don’t miss this tour.
Thank you Ken from this unbelievable experience. A piece of dream became real.

One of the best things we did on our 2 weeks trip to Japan. All guides involved were super friendly, passionate and knowledgable which all led to a great experience for all of us involved.

We were made to feel so comfortable from the beginning and the session did not feel rushed and it was really nice to hear some background of the samurai before the practical side of the activity. The zen meditation at the end was another great experience that was done so beautifully by the guides. Would definitely recommend!

Kevin is a very friendly and patient tour guide and answered many of our questions about life in Japan. He explained a lot to us during the tour and we were able to take some nice photos. The two restaurants/bars were also very well chosen. We were able to try lots of small portions and had definitely eaten and drunk more than enough at the end (definitely NO need for McDonalds afterwards). It was a great experience that we can recommend to everyone. Thank you very much for that.

Esteban was the perfect tour guide for our time in Kyoto. 8 hours is a long tour but he was so flexible with us to take it as fast as we wanted to more leisurely. I definitely recommend the Kansai Thru pass which allows you to use the buses and trains in Kyoto. Thanks Esteban and congrats on your marriage (he did the tour 2 days after his wedding!)!

Our Kyoto Bike tour to the "Bamboo Forest", various temples / shrines, and the back streets of Kyoto was a highly enjoyable and educational experience, and certainly one of the highlights of our Japanese holiday. Our guide, Ray, was a fountain of knowledge, his passion and love for his adopted country shining through in his engaging commentary. We learnt an enormous amount about Japan and I feel we understand the essence of the country after this fine tour.
