Undoubtedly the view of Kanchenjunga has to be the best attraction of Darjeeling. It was a long wait in the cold to see the sun rise. When it did happen we were lucky that it was very clear and the sun shining on the Himalayas was quite spectacular.
At that time in the morning we were some of the first to arrive and could choose our places in the stand area. By the time of the sunrise the place was very busy.

It’s really remarkable how far mountaineering has come since Everest was conquered. See the equipment and photos of the early explorers. The place is beautiful with a memorial for our soldiers and several small shop keepers selling their wares around it. But that didn’t take away from the knowledgable tour and couldn’t be helped!
