When picking up your tickets, make sure to give yourself enough time as the line at the box office can be quite long. - Glenn6 contributionsOur family enjoyed every minute of this wonderful, amazing trip! Sunny is knowledgeable, thoughtful, careful and friendly. Our van was cool and comfortable and the driver was excellent and everything went to schedule. Sunny expertly navigated us through all of the required reservations and health checks at our stops. We began in charming Old Shanghai on the way into Yu Gardens that was so much better with Sunny's interpretive knowledge which revealed details and stories that really brought each site we visited alive. We stopped for a delicious lunch at a lovely resurant where Sunny helped us order a fabulous Chinese meal. After lunch we toured the impressive Jade Buddha Temple and went to the French Concession for coffee in a cafe and did a little shopping :) We later went to the Oriental Pearl Tower which gave us amazing views of Pudong, the river and the Bund just as the sun was starting to cast long shadows. What a memorable, beautiful day! Sunny is the best! I've been living in Shanghai for over 10 years and I must say this tour opened my eyes to such much that I have been missing out on: the history, the preparations, the flavors, the characters, and the all the hidden gems that were unknown to me. The sad part is I'm about to return to the US and wished I spent more time at the restaurants and businesses UnTour took me to. I can confidently say I won't be getting anything like that outside of Shanghai. And even for the people in Shanghai, I'm afraid some of these places will disappear with time as the older generation retires. This is why I feel like it was such a treat and privilege to have been able to experience it and learn from the incredible team at UnTour. Money well spent and looking forward to another tour with UnTour before I leave town forever. - Malcolm WWashington DC, DC17 contributionsWe had a great day visiting Zhijiajiao water town, Yu Garden, a nice Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) lunch, and a stroll through the French Concession. Our tour guide, Apple, met us in the lobby of our hotel and had a van waiting outside with a car seat for our 2 year old. We visited Shanghai in January and the day we choose for our tour was the coldest of the year. The driver thoughtfully provided blankets that we could take with us if needed but having the heated van as a mobile base made a huge difference.
Apple obviously loves her city and was excited to show us all there was to see at every stop. The fact that we visited in January, and tight pandemic-related travel restrictions, meant that there were no crowds anywhere. This allowed us to take our time and get some great photos and detailed explanations from Apple, without having to wait in any lines. We attempted the full-day tour with a toddler who had to miss his nap and venture out in the cold, with a limited understanding of why he had to keep his gloves on. At times it was a struggle but Apple was great at coordinating the trip so that we could try and get him a short nap or two in the warm van, and she was flexible in our need to alter the itinerary with stops in tea houses to warm little hands.

We were picked up ahead of time by our guide Mark. Mark drove us around in a super clean car. We visited all major places in about 3.5 hours. Mark's driving style was superb. There was not one single question Mark was not able to answer.

Thoroughly enjoyed the river cruise and the stunning lights around the Bund. The dinner was delicious- Snow was very knowledgeable and helped in recommending food- her knowledge of Shanghai and the history was also exceptional and we enjoyed learning about Shanghai and the different architecture! Normally, I like to research extensively and handle all the logistics myself, but time was short this trip, so I decided to spring for a guided tour (I figure this would also help support local guides). I’m really glad I did this, as not only were the train tickets taken care of (and the Chinese train station logistics explained), but also the transport in Suzhou (the boat trip, bicycle rickshaw, and car). I do want to go back, so I’ll be better prepared next time.
Due to construction on the Grand Canal, we took a smaller boat on one of the side canals, which I think was better and we got a more personal boat ride, as the gondolier told us some of the history of the area and sang some Chinese songs for us while propelling our boat along!
Caroline was a knowledgeable guide, and her expertise helped me get the most out of the day in Suzhou. Besides the gardens, I also enjoyed the shopping streets, something that I normally would avoid in a tourist destination, but the ones in Suzhou we went through are really charming, especially when the lanterns are lit up in the evening.
