If you are looking for nice place to take a picture Landmark of Shanghai, this is a place.

Easy to reach from subway station of East Nanjing.

Mood and Tone of visit in daytime and night time is much different. Night Time, in my sense, is preferred.

You may feel familiar with this place from a few Chinese movies for sure.

Trust me.....go there and take a bunch of pic in the night!!!!!'

This is the first visit since 2003. So much difference. Before, they are like many old town in China, very commercial and shops sell same stuff which were boring.
Now, it's clean, many varieties. Not only traditional thing but modern stuff that can blend into the environment. Most important is coffee shop!
    Can easily spend 2-3hours there.

Tianzifang is one of the popular tourist destinations in Shanghai for shopping and experiencing local culture and lifestyle. It is located in the old French concession area. The area has mainly retained the "authentic and original" feeling because it has not been reconstructed or rebuilt. Instead visitors will get to see buildings, shophouses, alleys and streets of the old French concession area with Chinese "culture".

It has now become famous as a "rabbit warren" of arts and crafts shops, with restaurants, bars, cafes, souvenir and boutique shops etc. It has become touristy but still a good place to have a feel of the local touch.

I enjoy walking around in the small lanes around the old ancient buildings with beautiful decorations as it is quite difficult to find them these days due to the city redevelopment!

I saw a lot of old buildings and stores, many of them with unique decorative styles, and strolled along this old street full of stories and moods. I took a lot of photos here and love the sights!

We did not go in for tea. Was just outside the tea house admiring its menu and was really walking through while enjoying the lanterns. Not really interested in expensive tea at that time!!! However, this tea house looks really charming and its entrance is quite welcoming with an array of tea cups and tea sets to be admired and purchased.

After few years of living in China, my tolerance to some things has already adjusted. However, I have to admit it wow one of the better new built “ancient” town I have visited. The roofs rising out of the water looks super impressive, all of the buildings around, gardeners etc give a very good vibe too. Actually this is a good destination to have few hours rest from the splendor of a big city life in Shanghai.

probably one of the most advanced , newest boulevard in the world. Filled with new building on both sides, it would be a very enjoyable ride in the car on this road.

This street began in the Ming Dynasty era. Today it is located next to Yuyuan (Yu Garden) and the City God Temple. Perfect place to visit to get a feel of original old Shanghai. There are antique shops, jewelry shops, Chinese attire shops, boutiques, souvenirs and cafes. Great street to slowly enjoy and if you find something you like, don’t forget to bargain!

We took the subway to Tianzifang on a Saturday morning in December. This is definitely a vibrant and interesting. Tianzifang dates back nearly 500 years to the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty and is located at the heart of what was once the French Concession. What sets Tianzifang apart is its rich historical heritage. It preserves many old architectural relics, like traditional Shikumen houses, narrow alleyways, and weathered walls that hold the charm of old Shanghai. We actually spend quite a bit of time exploring these small alleyways and the many interesting stores, as well as snacking and picking up quite a bit of shopping haul. Definitely an interesting way to spend some time in Shanghai.

This building is located in downtown Puxi. Many like to come here just to take photos with the old building as the backdrop.

Almost the whole town was under construction when we were there. There were bamboo scaffoldings everywhere. We were still able to walk the town as all shops were open. It is quite a mixture of clothings, watches and optical shops together with restaurants. There’s an old mutton restaurant here too, near the Zhenru temple. Line 11 straight to Zhenru metro station. There’s construction everywhere near the metro. Take exit 2 and just follow the signs to Lanxi Road. That’s where the ancient town and temple is. It is not a long walk!
