Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our tour guide was Isaac. He picked us up from Stellenbosch at around 7.30 am. The ticket we purchased was supposed to cover breakfast for us but I’m not sure whether Isaac knew about that. We said we ate from our hotel already ( so glad we did!) but he wanted to stop for a quick bite. This took about ½ hour which could have been avoided. He did get us 2 English teas though. The second stop he made at a local curio shop was a bathroom stop which we didn’t need but then I decided to go in anyway. We ended up buying a lot of stuff to take home. There seemed to be a commission system for bringing in tourists at the shop and honestly that’s fine. We stopped at a couple of scenic spots to take some pics and Isaac happily clicked some pics of us which was very nice of him. We arrived at Buffelsdrift Lodge pretty late in the afternoon at around 1.30 pm. We had a rushed lunch (that took forever to arrive but was superb when it finally did ) and quickly got ready for our afternoon bush ride. We were rushing so only had time to drop our stuff at the tent we would stay that night. The ride was about a 45 min one and even though this was a private ride we seemed to have another couple join us. We were told by Isaac that the booking is private (ie. the drive to and from) but the bush rides weren’t. That didn’t seem to happen to the other couple in the car next to us. Theirs was ‘private’ all the way. The young lady who was our guide was knowledgeable and kept us informed and entertained all the way. She was a very skilled driver too. There was not a huge amount of animals to see here- giraffes, springboks, kudus, zebras, water bucks, etc. The drinks on the scenic look out point top was amazing though. Our guide informed us about the Karoo vegetation around us.

Coming back to our tent later that afternoon - our tent was large, very clean and had everything one would need. The shower was outside connected to the beautiful bathroom. Remember to take a shower before the weather goes cool and colder on the evenings. Otherwise there is a stand alone bathtub in the bathroom too but there’s no heating there. There is heating in the room though that works like a charm, heated blankets and lots of additional blankets are also provided if needed. On the evening while we were away someone came and gave us some ‘goodnight’ candy in our pillows which was sweet although I’m not sure whether I like the idea of not being able to lock the room from outside or having a key to do so. We were told the area is safe and there is a safe in the room in case we needed to store valuables. I would still have liked the option of a room lock- just saying. Other than that, there are no complaints about the room. The toiletries provided was adequate. There was even bath salts near the bathtub and a room freshener for the bathroom! (Hotels in the US need some lessons! )

Our package included dinner that evening and breakfast the next day. We came back and had a good dinner at the restaurant. The food was very well prepared and the service was excellent. The dusk scene with all the bird sounds was simply amazing. The eland and the deers in the early morning grazing around added to the natural beauty of the place. We also purchased the Walking & Feeding the Elephants in the morning. This was an absolutely fabulous experience. I recommend it 100%. The three orphaned elephants Bolero, Jabari and Malaika were gentle giants and apart from walking with them and feeding them, we got lots of hugs and cuddles from them too. Our guides on this activity were very good. The breakfast after we came back was good too but nothing could surpass the experience we had with the elephants. We drove next to Mossel Bay to Oudtshoorn and Botlierskop. This was a much bigger operation. The space was a lot more expansive with electric gates protecting the animals from presumably poachers. On that game drive we saw the Big Five. After the hippos, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, springboks and ostrich, we were nearly giving up on seeing a lion. Then we saw two lionesses- so majestic and beautiful. Our guide Mandela was lovely and had a great sense of humor. This was a trip well worth it. I would recommend it 100%. Throughout the entire trip we felt safe and would do it again in a heartbeat. PS. Planning to go to Cape Town again next year :-)

Four of us (two couples) did the self-guided 4-day Three Capes walk organised by Auswalk walking holidays. The walking was great, the paths very good and the scenery fabulous. The accommodation at Stewarts Bay Lodge is in a lovely bushland location with plenty of birdlife and the cabins were comfortable. The boat trip on day 4 was highly enjoyable and we saw lots of wildlife, including dolphins, seals, shy albatross, shearwaters, crested terns and gannets. It was very good to see the cliffs and capes from below after doing the walks. Transfers to and from the walks were excellent and our driver (Damien) was friendly, very helpful and flexible. I highly recommend this walk.

Of course Kruger was spectacular but the tour operator was excellent. When we had any issues they were responsive. They even adjusted the flight back to Cape Town from a different airport at no charge. In summary, great tour, great hotel, great service and we would highly recommend them.

Our tour guide Ruben was outstanding taking the time to explain so many things throughout the trip. Our tour group consisted of our family ages 9 to 64 so there was a wide range of questions which Ruben answered patiently and completely also looking for ways to make our tour extra special. Ruben was very easy to understand to our United States group which has presented in past with some tours. The sights were outstanding. We were unable to visit Robbens Island because of its closure Ruben took our group to the prison from which Mandela was released. Great trip for a family of all ages. Spectacular photo opportunities. I would definitely request Ruben if he is available.

If you’re considering doing guided garden route book it !!!! Without any doubts!!!
I had 6 wonderful days with earth stompers.
We were a group of 9 people, in different ages but it was a match from the first day. We had so much fun together exploring all the adventures together.
I’ve booked the backpackers and was a bit unsure how it’ll be. BUT the accommodations we were at were AMZING. To be honest it has nothing to do with how I imagined backpackers. I’d even recommend to book backpackers then guesthouse because the dinner was always at backpackers. Each one was different but all ways clean, charming with SUPER FRIENDY STUFF and Amazing FOOD.

The things we’ve visited were great and you never felt rushed.

ONE THING I WOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT:

THAT YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO BOOK THE GUIDE CHRISTINE TO MANAGE YOUR WHOLE LIFE.

Christine was the best guid I ever had. ALLWAYS friendly, smiling telling interesting stories and facts about
Country, people, live, culture, places. Helpful 24/6. Kept the group perfectly together. Took amzing pictures.
Managing with complainings and load sheddings. She organized and helped me with traveling and visa informations for my next trip.
Beside all of the beautiful nature we saw, she had made the trip so unforgettable and special.
(Note for chritines boss: she needs a new mic. And don’t wait until Christmas;)
I’d call that trip: “6days Christine route”

But honestly : only one day we were out of water because of load sheddings but that could happen. All country is struggling with it. All the rest was amazing.

My wife and I recently completed the Earthstompers’ 5-Day Garden Route trip and have to commend the company for packing so much into such a short period of time. Special praise should go to our guide Christine as her local knowledge really brought something extra to the trip and helped to keep us on schedule. There was still plenty of time to take those all important photos to remember the adventure. If you’re looking for a way to see the Garden Route without hiring a car this is perfect. It really contributed to a fantastic trip to South Africa and allowed us to see places we just wouldn’t have got to without a car or Christine’s experience of the route. Keep up the good work Earthstompers and thanks again Christine. 👍

Had the most amazing guide inTarriq Voltman of Cape Extreme! Ended up being a private tour for three days. Amazing animal safaris, cave visit, food. My daughter was able to have a Cheetah encounter which she loved. Best part was walking with the elephants and getting to feed them. Our host Liez was wonderful and her accommodations and dinner for us was amazing. Would definitely do this again and highly recommend our guide, Tarriq Voltman

A fantastic trip from start to finish. Whether you’re into wildlife, scenery or adrenaline - this trip has it all! Cape Xtreme took care of everything we wanted and went that extra step to make sure all went smoothly.
If you’re planning a holiday to South Africa then I’d strongly recommend this company. A variety of tours with excellent guides who really show you the magic of what the country has to offer!

Muammer Jacobs (Mo) was the perfect guide and driver! His car was clean, he was punctual, polite and knowledgeable. He navigated all the attractions with a great rapport with the attractions staff. He was very accommodating to our needs as unexpected situations arose on our 2 day tour. It was a great experience and I recommend Muammer’s tours as the best way to see Cape Town.

The guids King and Didi always tried their best to make everything possible that we asked for. The same time they had a eye on everyones well-being.

I had a lot of fun doing the well selected activities.

Cape Convoy and Rob was recommended to us by friends who had taken the tour a few years ago and had the time of their lives. We had a wonderful four days traveling along the coast and seeing the beauty of South Africa. Good food, stunning scenery and wildlife, it was everything I hoped it would be and more. Rob, you're a bit of a legend mate!
