Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Church from late 16th century - it is famous for its rich decorations in the interior. You will be amazed by the colours, sculptures and golden chapels. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful church. Calm and tranquil, worth a visit. Lots to see, with plenty of resting benches, for the less mobile. Plastic candles not the best, but necessary.

You should come here as part of your trip to the Alcazaba, the entry price can be inclusive. Some TV and film shots were taken here.

This church is right in the center of Antequera and a very beautiful chuch to stop in. (Several pictures attached)

I forget the patron saint that appeared to the catholic king before they conquered antequera, but they were having a procession for her the next day.

The church dates bck multi-hundreds of years.

On this trip my wife and I stayed 3 days in the Parador to be able to see as many churches as possible. Antequera is the town in Andalusia with the most Baroque art, which interests me. We were able to see 17 churches in those 3 days. Seeing all of them, I was able to make comparisons with all the photos I took. In my opinion the Los Remedios Convent is the most beautiful of the churches. Almost every surface is covered with Mannerist paintings. The painted ceilings are really spectacular. I also enjoyed seeing the sculptures of so many angels. All the altars were beautiful and gilded.

Worth a visit to view the wonderfully ornate interior of this beautiful church. It is one of over 30 churches in Antequera and still in daily use as a place of worship and tourist attraction.

The main chapel has a retable made with polychromed plaster, made in the 18th century. There is a baldachin on top of this that came from the main chapel of Santa Maria and was transferred to this church in the 18th century. There are some retables that are gilded and are quite beautiful. There are thirteen large paintings of the Virgin and the Apostles at the main altar. The ceiling is very high.

We ate at a wonderful little restaurant right in front of this church. We never got inside the church but the outside was beautiful. Beautiful views from up there as well. Another cute little church right next door

    .

Built in the 17th century, from 1672 onwards, the church's classical Greek heritage is clearly seen, and it is a handsome structure worth pausing to see as you walk around the town. Antequera is said to have more churches per inhabitant (or should that be fewer inhabitants per church?!) than any other town or city in Spain. There are 28 in all, we are told.

Inside, however, this church is somewhat disappointing since a fire in the 1930's destroyed a great fdeal of the original retablo, the various images of saints, and parts of the side naves. The modern repairs are not of particularly good workmanship.

One striking feature of the interior is that it is bathed in light, natural light. Not many churches are seen to their best effect in daylight.

The second oldest church in Antequera and an important one as it is that of the patron saint of Antequera.. The entrance and facade was completely restored about two years ago. Well worth a visit as part of the history of Antequera.
