A truly wonderful sculpture/statue of a WW1 Tommy. Looking into the face of this sculpture was quite emotional, it said so much and the artist clearly put his heart into it.
The Tommy was commissioned to commemorate the First World War centenary and is very awe inspiring. I was amazed to learn from a passerby that the townspeople raised over £100,000 so it could be kept in Seaham.
It's over 9ft tall, was created by local artist Ray Lonsdale and is entitled Eleven O One '1101'.
The whole area is one of memorial and truly stunning.

This was our first visit to Seaham and we discovered the heritage and lifeboat centre while down at Seaham Harbour Marina. The lifeboat shed houses the beautifully restored lifeboat and includes a viewing platform to allow visitors to see on board. There are helpful and knowledgeable staff and information displays tell the history of the lifeboat, including the tragic loss of her crew. A great visitor experience, tinged with sadness as we remember the crew who were lost.

When visiting any town we all should lookat the war memorials and give thanks to those that gave their lives so that we can live as well as we do.

We came upon this church by accident and went back for a longer look. The church is only open weekends so we were not able to go inside but we were fascinated by the building and the graveyard

If you love the search for sea glass, you MUST stop here!! This beach is famous for having multi-color sea glass. This particular beach is accessible via a LONG stairway from the car park down to the beach. Easy to go down, less easy coming back up...LOL.

We stopped here during a road trip around the UK for the specific purpose of searching for sea glass. I love beach combing and hunting for sea glass, so when we planned a trip to the UK, I knew we had to stop here for a visit.

We managed to stop by the beach for a visit on both April 11 & 12, 2023. It was cold and windy both days with a sprinkling of rain. But that didn't deter me from the matter at hand. Search for glass!! We walked down the stairs and went left. There were other people here doing the same thing as us. Nobody (but the dogs) were in the water. Too cold.

    - Our first visit, we arrived as the tide was coming in. Not recommended. We were less successful.
    - Our 2nd visit, we arrived as the tide was going out. Definitely recommend you check the tide chart and plan to visit as the tide is going out. We were much more successful finding glass.

Nice activity for singles, couples and families. Lots of people were here walking their dogs. None of the dogs were on leashes, so if you aren't a fan of dogs, keep this in mind. We had no trouble with any of the dogs being aggressive or bothering us. They were just there for the fun.

It's a gorgeous beach on it's own - even without the allure of sea glass.

It is a rocky beach (at least it was when we visited). How you search for glass is up to you. Some people, like me, walk and look. Others were sprawled out on the shore, digging. I did find that I wasn't as successful with my usual "look and find" approach. So after a while, I decided to give digging a try. Digging in the rocks (shingles) was more conducive to finding treasures.

We were only there a few hours (in total), as this is my hobby and it's not really my husband's cup of tea. But even in a short time, we found a small baggie worth of glass to bring home. Some visits are more fruitful than others. You aren't guaranteed glass when you visit, but I hope if you go, you find some!!

Oh, helpful tip....Tesco has mesh produce bags for a few pence and they make great bags for collecting and holding your finds.

Myself and my son have been attending a baby massage course here and it’s been brilliant. He loves it and the Covid measures in place are excellent. Lovely cafe too which is reasonably priced and delicious 😀

A beach top picnic area designated a Mole Sanctuary as a peaceful place for subterranean wildlife to live in peace. Lovely beach walks nearby and a cafe to get an ice cream, coffee or snack. Large carpark near by and picnic tables to eat your sandwiches and rest your legs.
Hopefully you get lucky and spot one of these industrious little furry fellas as they push there excavations to the surface.
A calm, quiet and relaxing place to slow down and smell the roses.

The path down to the beach is very steep and dangerous if not in good foot ware. there are some steps down to the beach further along but I did not see any signs to say they were there. I wouldn't try to go on to the beach if it's been raining as it will make the path down even more dangerous. I think you can get to the steps by walking from the car park which is free, walk about half way along the top away from Seaham and you should be able to find the steps down??? not too sure as i havent been back.

Twighlight Spa was £145 including treatment. Last time I was here it was £75, so prices really gone up. Lovely welcome at Reception. I was given a massage by Zara. Received my full 60 minutes. Zara was fabulous, was supposed to get 30 min massage and 30 min facial, but I asked for full massage and she was accommodating. Applied the perfect hard pressure I liked. Very professional and knowledgeable in the Spa Treatments. Finished with relaxing warm bed and iced sorbet. All of Spa area was dimmed lights and comfortable and very relaxing and great decor.
Next we had our food. 2 courses, and portions were huge. I am not a big fan of Asian food ( does not agree with my IBS), and I do not eat red meat, just wished there was a simple chicken breast dish or an omelette as an alternative, or a light bite menu for people similar to myself with a smaller appetite. Staff were very attentive, and there was a great Ambiance.
Arrived round pool 8pm. No beds available, as people had towels over them, possibly whilst they were in pool, Spa or saunas. We just sat on chairs not a problem. Tried to relax and read, but group of ladies in swimming pool were extremely loud, so could not concentrate. Showers and changing room were OK but did not enthuse luxury.
All in all my experience was very good, and will book again. The staff at this Spa are outstanding, and really make it a pleasant experience.

Played here on a Wednesday it was a lovely sunny day with a cold wind
It’s not a long course but it is tricky if the wind is in the wrong direction it makes it very difficult still a bit early to play here but in great condition nevertheless
