What travellers are saying
- KillielizKilmarnock, UK18 contributionsLoved this place, so pleased we walked along to it. Not at all what we expected. Great value at £8 pp. Could spend a couple of hours in here easily. Lots of history and information, loads of pieces to look at, plus films, pictures, photos. Staff pleasant and there is a cafe onsite, which we didn't try, as had already eaten.Written 10 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Medi7 contributionsWe had such a wonderful morning here. Quinn was so knowledgeable and clearly passionate about her work. Came away feeling like we'd actually learned something and wanted to learn more rather than just 'ticked off' an experience. The birds were awe inspiring to be up close to and it was a wonderful session. It fitted into the day well too as the setting just nearby was lovely for a picnic and lots of walks to choose from starting at the same spot for afterwards.Written 16 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stephen RMarket Lavington, UK34 contributionsA great facility raising money for this remote community. A wide range of interesting local crafts for sale at reasonable prices. The food and drink were pleasant, especially the homemade cakes which were delightful. The view from the outside terrace is outstanding. There is a village shop and local museum close by.Written 21 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BrandonGlasgow, UK20 contributionsJust off the A832, nice little car park to stop at.
The white trail (Left) leads you to a nice wooden viewpoint. Very easy walk almost no elevation.
Blue Trail it’s more of a short climb albeit only for 10 minutes, but it’s worth it when you get to the top.
We were lucky, it had rained the night before, so the waterfall was teaming. Watch out for midges though, you are in Scotland at the end of the day…Written 28 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Went to see our late Granny “Betty Miller” memorial bench at the Sitooterie. Dad was dressed in a Santa Oodie and 2 girls were so excited to see Santa so he had to jump into character.Written 25 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - profjoypcAlnwick, UK4,577 contributionsWe love Rob's work and were sad to hear he has left Gairloch and relocated to a gallery at Coldstream in the Scottish borders. We purchased one of the few remaining originals left at Solas. That said, the gallery is beautiful in its new incarnation with some excellent artwork on display and we thoroughly recommend a visit. We look forward to our next visit and will no doubt find something to add to our collection of art from Gairloch!Written 19 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - profjoypcAlnwick, UK4,577 contributionsWe have walked up to this waterfall on many occasions but this time it was more spectacular than ever as there had been so much rain. It is a very pleasant walk from the car park by the Old Inn, with paths rugged and reasonably steep in places. One can go right around the top of the falls in a circular walk but an old wooden bridge near the top is broken so the only way across is to wade across boulders in a shallow stream of water - so if you are planning this walk, appropriate footwear is essential.Written 27 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - profjoypcAlnwick, UK4,577 contributionsWe just LOVE this beach and had lots of lovely walks here despite the contant rain and wind. a great walk is from the harbour up to a viewpoint and then down to the beach (signposted) It is a beach of beautiful golden sand and, on a nice day, lovely view out to seaWritten 30 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Iain ADumfries, UK12 contributionsThough not a difficult climb, proper hiking gear is a must. Very wet terrain and peat bogs are very much what to expect.
Starting from the Shieldaig lodge it is a short walk to the path. This starts as a gravel road then branches off to the track you will follow.
Beautiful views over the loch towards Gairloch eventually take you to the lochs and the remains of the B-24 Liberator from World War 2.
Well worth the effort, a deeply poignant and beautiful spotWritten 18 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Stuart SAberdeen, UK65 contributionsIt takes a bit of effort to get to the Fionn Loch from Poolewe, but it's more than worth it. You'll struggle to find a more spectacular, secluded setting in the whole of Scotland, particularly at the east end of the loch at Carnmore. It's a 17km approach on foot or bike to get there, but take your time, soak up the scenery and you'll never want to leave!Written 29 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
