We detoured to Ostrich Land and Solvang on our drive up the Pacific Coast Highway. We really enjoyed this stop. Parking in front of the farm is free. There are some products for sale in the gift shop that feature ostrich related trinkets. This is where you purchase your tickets.

The Farm charges a nominal fee ($7 pp) to enter the farm where the Ostriches and Emus are penned. If you are interested in feeding them, it is $1 for a small pan of feed. The Ostriches are very eager to eat and need little encouragement to approach and have some food. They are not tame, so petting is not advised. We saw some lone ostrich eggs in the dirt during our visit too.

We enjoyed our stop here and would recommend to others who enjoy animal encounters.

This place is a true hidden gem that is not to be missed. I'm not even a "car guy" and neither is my wife, but that doesn't matter. You will be fascinated by this collection started by Jack Mendenhall and continued by his son Mark and Mark's wife Vickie. Call in advance to set up your visit and you will have a guided tour by either Mark or Vickie. Our tour was with Vickie, who was such a delight. Each (we also overheard Mark) will provide terrific anecdotes and point out items that should not be missed. For example, there is a wall of California license plates except that in 1944, instead of a plate, there is a small square certificate made of paper, as metal was a premium during war time. You will find a fascinating collection of gasoline pumps through the decades starting in the 20's. They have close to an acre of land, attached to their home, dedicated to their passion and it comes through. We had a blast.

Had a month in Santa Ynez Valley to escape the desert and sample some of the
culinary/wine scene.....what a great surprise to find a real deal distillery with a wise
old master mixologist/distiller. Great smoooooth unadulterated spirits at crazy fair prices for the quality in a great setting with legacy stories; very very creative....try Jay's "BEES KNEES" or "MOONHATTAN"!!

After leaving Solvang we visited Pence Vineyards in Buellton, CA for a scheduled wine tasting and tour of the Vineyards. The wine tasting included PTG, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Chardonnay. The first three were variations of red wines. All were very light and not too sweet. Personally, I am not a fan of red wines but enjoyed all we tasted. The Chardonnay was very good with a creamy texture. The employee doing the tasting was excellent. After the tasting we were taken on a tour of the property. Absolutely beautiful. Lakes, hills & rolls and rolls of vines. Pence Vineyards is close to Solvang and other vineyards. You can book wine tours out of Solvang. Suggest if you are into wine to do this vineyard and others in the area.

I am a daily sewer and sell my artistic design weekly.
When ever I need a special theme or color the Creation Station Fabric and Quilt Shop always surprises me with the current selection of fabrics and always inspires me.
Pleased to have them in my area! Fabric shops are fading away and I want to always support the small shops that are independent and relay upon us to keep on being in business. This shop is fun and owners are kind and happy to assist your fabric needs.

We visited on a "Sideways" tour and absolutely loved this little vineyard. The woman pouring was great! She knew her wines and foods that would go well with each one. This vineyard produces Italian style wines and they are great. We didnt join their wine club but we will be ordering from them by mail and stopping by whenever we come through the area.

In planning a wine tasting trip in and around Buellton I wanted some brochures, coupons, flyers, maps, etc..so that my group would be prepared ahead of time. I called Phil Carpenter (Director of Membership) and he gathered up all the info he thought I could use and mailed it out ASAP, allowing me ample time to put together a forthcoming trip.

Our first time tasting at Lafond included stops at Sanford and Peake Ranch. All 3 are on the most gorgeous road and drive in the entire area. Start at Sanford, then work your way back to Lafond and then Peake Ranch.

Sandra greeted us at Lafond and poured spectacular wines. With each one, she showed us the fact sheet about the wine, and answered any additional questions we had. There are two appellations at Lafond and we definitely prefered the SRH - Santa Rita Hills appellation. We left with multiple bottles of the SRH Chardonnay, SRH Pinot Noir and SRH Syrah. Would definitely come back to Lafond.

Nice place to taste wine - cool vibe and the wine is all really good. Walkable from the Buellton hotels and there are other tasting rooms in the area.

Went here in early 2022 with my friends and I can’t get over how knowledgeable the woman in the tasting room was!

She taught us all about the soils of the Sta. Rita Hills and how they affect wine – it was fascinating!

    And the wine was excellent!!
