We followed the route outlined and had a perfect balance of ghost towns, scenery, off-road fun, and even an ice cream stop for the kids.
Highly recommended for families with kids (age 10 and up) looking for an adventure beyond just sitting on a train.

They can give you good information about mining and your children will find it way more interesting than visiting all the shops in Silverton.
Our tour guide did a great job involving our kids in the presentation, which worked wonders to help my daughter (who was afraid of being inside the mine) relax and enjoy herself.

Lots of breaks to see the sights & history of the area, very patient with the kids as they threw rocks in the lake, all around wonderful morning in the mountains.
My boys said it was their favorite part of the vacation!! Tony- Thanks for getting us up and down the mountains safely and for taking our family pics along the way.

Awesome view, must visit in WINTER, when its white out!! Need to have good snow gear.. Kids will love too
There is room for young kids to romp in the snow safely.

The mill is still in spectacular shape and has six pieces of equipment that are still energized and work with the push of a button (great if you have kids).
As me and my family visited the site we were whisked back in time to the early years of mining of his area.
