Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Fiona KMelbourne, Australia15 contributionsMuch better than I was expecting. The zoo was actually quite big. There is a place to eat food before or after going to see all the animals. Most animals seemed well cared for except there was only one elephant, which I expect is very lonely. They need to work on population control with their baboons and gazelles, there were far too many for the size of their enclosures.Written 11 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LuizDutraNetoRio de Janeiro, RJ8,560 contributionsThis is the biggest and most important square in the whole country and has had many names along the centuries ... "Plaza Mayor, Plaza Central, Plaza de Armas, Plaza de los Lamentos, Parque Central" and, lately, "Plaza Mayor de la ConstituciĂłn"! Right after the major earthquakes of 1773, known as the "Terremotos de Santa MarĂa", which destroyed the city of "Santiago de los Caballeros" (the actual "Antigua"), the Spanish authorities decided to build a new city - "Nueva Guatemala de la AsunciĂłn" (the actual "Ciudad de Guatemala") - replacing the former capital. As traditional in the colonial years, a central square was mandatory in all towns. So, "Plaza Mayor de la ConstituciĂłn" dates from 1776 and its central fountain, known as "Fuente de Carlos III", was erected in 1779. The square, located in Ciudad de Guatemala's Zone 1, is the very heart of the historical district. It is sided by important buildings and parks, such as the "Palacio Nacional de la Cultura" (the former presidential palace), the "Catedral Metropolitana", the "Biblioteca Nacional de Guatemala", the "Portal del ComĂ©rcio" and the "Parque Centenário". After the 1976 earthquakes, "Plaza Mayor de la ConstituciĂłn" was completely renovated, with the construction of an underground parking area. Nevertheless, after the conversion of the presidential palace into a museum, the square has lost much of its past glory and political importance, but it is still an outstanding tourist attraction and should be visited! Enjoy!Written 6 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mari P38 contributionsThe botanical garden is small but well stocked with many many different plants. Did not give it 5 stars because the museum is not very nice. However, the gardens themselves are worth a visit and it's a lovely respite from the city.Written 6 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mas1958montreal344 contributionsUnfortunately it was closed when we got there. Interesting white church bldg. Stands alone on a hill surrounded by gardens. Great views from there as well.Written 5 February 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sheila62 contributionsAvenida de las Américas in Guatemala City is not your typical tourist attraction, but it offers a delightful walking experience, especially recommended on Sundays from 8 AM to 2 PM during the "Pasos y Pedales" event. During this time, the avenue is closed off to vehicular traffic, allowing people to freely walk, cycle, skate, and even bring their dogs. The event fosters a lively atmosphere with an array of street vendors selling food, various goods, and engaging in numerous activities.
While the avenue becomes a bustling hub of activity on Sundays, those seeking a quieter experience may want to visit at a different time. Security is robust during these events, ensuring a safe environment for all attendees.
The setting is nice and pretty, offering a pleasant environment for an outdoor stroll. However, it's nothing extraordinary or a must-see destination if you're looking for unique tourist sites. Overall, Avenida de las Américas provides a nice change of pace and a glimpse into local life in Guatemala City, particularly during the vibrant Pasos y Pedales.Written 17 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
