Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a wonderful, wee gin distillery in Millport, on Isle of Cumbrae.
Seven ‘older ladies’ all gin drinkers! Went for the afternoon tour.
The entrance into the distillery was through a lovely shop, then into the seated area. Julie, one of the five ladies who started the business, gave a very interesting talk on the the history of Cumbrae, how the gin was made, what botanicals were used to get the right flavours etc. We were given a gin & tonic to enjoy as the talk went on.
We then went into see the gin still and how the gin was distilled, all fascinating!
We then were giving a tasting of two very different gins, ‘Maura’ named after the patron saint of Cumbrae, served with a slice of orange & tonic.
Also another one, regret can’t remember name!
It was a very friendly, happy afternoon. Highly recommend a visit to Cumbrae gin.
Hats of to the five ladies who started this business.

We visited the Cathedral for Sunday eucharistic. A small and very beautiful building with a friendly and welcoming congregation. Lovely music to accompany the service and we would have liked to attend one of the music recitals in during August 2023.

Visited here early October. Lovely cafe with a museum and history of Millport.
The food was delicious, warm, quick service and very reasonably priced. They also recommend a hire bike shop Mapes who are cheaper than the other hire shop.

Other cafes are quite small. This is nice and spacious and nice things for kids to see.
Would come again for the baked potato.

Newton Beach is the small shingle/sandy beach that lies below the promenade in the centre of Millport. With gently sloping sand into shallow water it is ideal for families and its intertidal rock pools add extra interest and fun while the stunning views of the Eileans, Little Cumbrae and the Clyde Estuary make the perfect backdrop.

The beach is highly rated and has received a Beach Award from Keep Scotland Beautiful.

The aquarium section has recently been renovated and now appears much more professional. The museum section is now more geared to kids and of less interest to the adult visitor than it used to be.

To find, put the following co-ordinates into your google maps:

    55.771626,-4.922357

When you get there, it is quite windy, but peaceful and beautiful. You will get a 360 view and the brass plate on the stone built plynth tells where everywhere is.

As is typical with searching out these standing stones, we had a bit of difficulty finding it and figuring out where to park. When you get close, look for a 2-car parking area with a sign for Gouklan Wood. There's a lovely (short) path through the woods to the standing stone.

Great bikes and great service. Arrived at the shop and registered really quickly. All 3 bikes (including 1 electric) were ready to go straight away with instructions given about the bikes. It’s not the first time I’ve rented from Mapes and won’t be the last

My daughter loves it here, especially when there's no one else around. Need flip flops or the like to walk on the beach, but its a great paddling location, lovely views, lots of beach for the little one and a great place for a picnic

You can even purchase your own fairy door to add to the trail from the gallery shop.
