What travellers are saying
- Traveltogo33Ohio338 contributionsThere's just nothing else like it. Known as being one of the most remote national parks in the world, it's a must do when visiting the Keys. What I found most surprising was how open and rugged the fort is. You're free to roam around, and there are no guard rails even on top of the fort; it's quite the feeling being so exposed and I'm glad they allow this. Snorkeling is fine. I've done better but there are fish to see, especially close to the fort walls. And of course, the setting itself is spectacular.
My only complaint? We didn't have enough time. Whether arriving by boat or plane (we opted for the plane), you're limited to 2-2.5 hours. I could've used a few more hours. That means you have to camp, which is very primitive. As in, pack in EVERYTHING: food, drinking water, etc. Maybe someday we'll get back there and try that!Written 9 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Christopher D13 contributionsIt was just a lovely stop along our tour around Jet West. We got to see the famous cat while enjoying the shade and gardens. E wry thing was perfectly preserved and just left well. I’d go again.Written 22 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- FloridakeysrealtorTavernier, FL16 contributionsThis is one of my FAVORITE places to visit while in
Key West. I live in Tavernier (one of the islands in the
keys) and I still make it a point to go here every time I
make it down to Key West. The feeling of the
beautiful butterfly and birds flying above is one that
you must experience while in Key West.Written 22 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Jerry H5 contributionsSunset was absolutely best I have ever seen. The shops are very nice and the boats and condo's were stunning! Don't forget the ice cream shop!Written 21 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Christine FFort Lauderdale, FL259 contributionsJust walk up and down and enjoy the night life and fun places to eat and drink. We sat at a few sidewalk cafes and enjoyed the view.Written 22 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Flydog66Miami, FL144 contributionsWell worth taking the tour...our guide was full of great stories and we enjoyed it very much. Loved that there is still furniture (like the poker table) that was there when President Truman visited.Written 23 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- BARBARA SSioux Falls, SD43 contributionsYes, it is an nice drive to be out on the water on a highway, but most of it needs repair. And don't go on the weekends. Some of the scenery is blocked by hedges/trees. You need an up to date app to know where you are and where to turn off for the sites such as the parks, etc. I would say that it was a disappointment and that I wouldn't go again.Written 8 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Flydog66Miami, FL144 contributionsThis is an outstanding spot! Clear blue water, plenty of palms for shade. I like to sit up on the bluff a few feet over the sandy beach and catch the amazing breezes. The water is quite rocky - I recommend surf shoes or old sneakers so you don't stub your toe.Written 23 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Jay CAuckland Central, New Zealand20 contributionsThis was more than just a Coast Guard Cutter, it was a navy warship that had a mound of decorations. Well worth going.Written 16 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- janeNew York152 contributionsWe'd heard about Mel Fisher's story before, but this museum really brought it to life. A short film, lots of exhibits, treasure, and artifacts not only related to Mel Fisher's expeditions, but also the maritime history of the keys and Caribbean made for an enjoyable couple of hours. There's also a nice book and gift shop area, too. Great way to spend a couple of hours in air-conditioned comfort during the hottest part of the afternoon.Written 15 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- ctimms125Austin, TX35 contributionsThis tour is completely self-guided. The journey to the top really makes one appreciate how difficult this job was. IT made me really appreciate my own cushy job. The quarters are really beautifully restored and I am so glad that I made time for this visit.Written 29 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- sciteach07Atlanta, GA241 contributionsThe line moved more quickly than I thought. Bonus—people were nice to each other and took pictures for each other so things went smoothly.Written 3 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Michael N2 contributionsThis is a truly wonderful place and it's free "although I always drop something in the donation box" with a small movie theater that show a 20 minute very well done movie about the marine environment,a mockup of an undersea laboratory you can go in and an aquariumWritten 11 November 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- RydenSyracuse11 contributionsThis was a beautiful piece of property. Very well maintained and a great place to take couples photos. It is also free. It is a welcome break from the sun as most areas are shaded. I strongly suggest to leave a donation at the end as it must take many volunteers to upkeep. Please do note the brick archway that is surrounded by all of the “roots of a tree” is no longer there. (You will see pictures in the trip advisor archives). We specifically wanted a photo with it. Unfortunately, it was damaged during a hurricane and is no longer there. My apologies for not knowing the name of the trees. However there are many other places for couples photos. Especially the orchid area. Hundreds of orchids in bloom when we went.Written 28 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
