Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Good small market in between the seminak area. It has few local souvenirs shops and few branded stores. One activity I really wanted to do was the soap making workshop but due to lack of time I couldn’t. I would recommend if you have time do try it there

Came across this leather shop when shopping and was really impressed by the quality of each product, I also decided to get a pair of shoes made which they turned around in only a fews days.. What service!!! I love my new shoes and will be definitely ordering some more shoes to be made to send back to Australia. I would highly recommend to anyone that loves good quality leather goods.

Please be extremely cautious of exchanging money at small money exchange booths. Try to use large exchange offices or banks with plenty of standing room. I learned this lesson the hard way after getting swindled 2.75 million Indonesian rupiah (about $175 USD) in Seminyak, Bali.

The place I regretably used was a small booth right across the SHRIMPIS Restaurant (close to Petinent Beach) in Seminyak, Bali. The official online bank rate that day was $1 USD to 16,290 Indonesian rupiah. The exchange also had it posted as $ 1 USD to 16,290 Indonesian rupiah. The agent did the calculation as $700 USD = 11,403,000 rupiah. He had me verify the calculation several times. He then hand counted each 1,000,000 rupiah and handed it to me to verify the count and I placed them in stacks in front of me on the narrow booth counter. He gave me a total of 11,405,000 rupiah to count. He started gathering the piles of notes, leaving the 5,000 rupiah note separate. He asked me to see if I have change of 2,000 rupiah in my wallet to give back to him. During that distraction, while he is gathering the money back into a single stack and you are busy looking in your wallet for the change is when they cleverly slide a portion of the notes out. I gave him the 2,000 rupiah note from my wallet and he handed me the thick stack of money and told me to be very careful with it as it is alot of notes (all 50k notes which would be 228 notes). I made the critical mistake of not counting the money again and immediately put all the money into a secured zippered front pocket (my thinking was that I just hand counted the money and put it into stacks so there was not a need to count it again). Also, there was a suspicious guy sitting on a scooter on the street right in front of the exchange booth watching me which further added to my urgency to tuck the money away as quickly as possible.

When I got back to our hotel in Nusa Dua that evening I prepared for the next day trip to Nusa Penida and counted out the 4,500,000 rupiah needed for the trip. That is when I realized the remaining stack didn't seem thick enough. I counted the remaining money and my fear was confirmed. I now only had a total of 8,655,000 rupiah when in fact I should have had 11,405,000 rupiah. I had been shorted 2,750,000 rupiah. It's about $175 USD so it's not an insignificant amount of money and felt bad that I had been tricked. For the rest of the trip I only used large office money exchanges. Here there is ample counter space and enough room for several family members to accompany you. These places also actually have a camera recording the whole transaction. The agent counts out the EXACT correct amount in front of you (does not ask for you to look for change in your wallet) and hands it to you thru the glass barrier. They then ask you to please recount it on your side of the glass before putting it away. They also take a photocopy of your ID and give you an official receipt of the transaction. This was the total opposite of my previous transaction: cramped space, narrow counter, no glass barrier separating the agent from you, no receipt, no camera recording, suspicious characters lurking to make you feel rushed....

Overall, I found the people of Bali to be very hospitable. Tourism is the main industry so drivers, staff at bars, restaurants, hotels and tours always take good care of you. I just hope you can learn from my mistake and have an even more enjoyable trip than I experienced.
