Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There is not much there but if you read up on them before you go you can at least imagine how this market town used to connect the ocean to the old Zimbabwe. Not a must though so only go if either 1) you need a break from the beach, or 2) you are driving between Vilanculos and Inhambane

We loved this excursion - a really authentic Mozambique experience and we got to see endangered seahorses.
Our guide picked us up and drove us through the villages to the bay. Then it was a very short dhow trip (10mins) across shallow water to the sea grass beds. Our guide gave us masks and snorkels and helped us find the seahorses. The water was only knee deep - so you didn't have to do lots of swimming. It was so magical seeing the sea horses. Despite having dived all round the world, this was only my second time ever seeing them in the wild. We also saw two octopus.
After about an hour in the water we returned to the shore, where a delicious local lunch of matapa and rice had been prepared for us.
Our guide explained how the money from the tourists is being used to support the villagers, so there is no more illegal poaching of the sea horses.
A win: win conservation and community project.

Spectacular SPA, facilities, staff, massage... very relaxing atmosphere! Using local & quality products! Different types of massages and treatments. I enjoy a neck and back massage this type, but had very good experience receiving a full body massage in another visit to this SPA. High recommended!

I have been visiting Bahia Mar for many years now. Every time, their yoga classes are on my bucket list of things to do in Vilankulo.
Susana does mind-blowing arial yoga that will honestly take you to another level of relaxation and flexibility. Gretha’s classes feel like having a whole body massage! These classes are must go if you’re staying in Vilankulo!

Interesting well made Mozambican crafts. Worth a look. Their prices are on the high side compared to Maputo. Collection is well created and good quality.

I did 2 days diving with Odyssea with Blessings and Jorge. The diving around 2 mile reef is amazing: turtles, sharks, rays, octopus, morays, etc etc etc. We saw dolphins and dugongs on the trip to the dive site.
Gear was all in good order. Lunch, water and dry bags are provided.
The boat is a bit compact and I needed help getting back in after diving (no ladder) but I think this type of boat is standard for the area due to the shallow waters.
I would recommend them to divers visiting Vilanculos.

This was a truly amazing experience with the Mozambique riding team. From the first contact at the booking stage to our departure, we were blown away by the holiday. Stunning location, superbly schooled horses, sensational food, great people and happy holiday memories that I still dream of.

An absolute must for riders looking to elevate their horses riding experience.

Unfortunately, I cut my leg quite badly while snorkeling with Sunset Dhow Safari. The crew provided first aid and kept me comfortable. Company management met us back on shore and drove me to and from a clinic where I received immediate attention. They made sure I was taken care of, and their insurance policy covered the cost of everything. Definitely a reputable company!
