Old Slave Market/Anglican Cathedral Stone Town
#2 of 23 Sights & Landmarks in Zanzibar Island
Our lovely guide Paul provided a wonderful tour to old slave market giving us a lot of history about the market and the church at the site.
We visited this complex as part of a slave tour of Stonetown which included sites in the town as well as the cave at Mangapwani and a spice tour in the countryside nearby.

Christ Church Cathedral Stone Town
#3 of 23 Sights & Landmarks in Zanzibar Island
It is built on the site of the former slave market to commemorate the end of slavery with the altar built at the slave whipping spot.
This beautiful cathedral has been built on the site of the old Slave Market and is a most suitable memorial to all those poor souls who either perished or had their lives changed for ever in this spot.

Yes it is touristy but so if NYC and Paris, Rome etc.Take time to absorb the atmosphere and the sights, sounds and smells - Wonderful!
