What travellers are saying
- BinghamtoniansNewport, RI8 contributionsFantastic state park. We highly recommend visiting. We were off season when we went exploring to the southern most part of the OBX.
If visiting in summer, grab water, sunblock, hat and flip flops. Explore the beautiful beach, go shelling, be mindful if swimming and only swim where there are lifeguards on duty. We saw many ocean rip currents and we both enjoy swimming however, we are forever mindful of our surroundings before we venture in for a dip.
If you do not know what a rip current looks like, take the time, educate yourself and your party and ask a lifeguard on duty.
The museum is tastefully done and the park ranger staff is excellent, professional and most informative. The history of the light house, its keepers and then the task of relocating is fascinating.
We highly recommend venturing into the national park.Written 29 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Even on the windiest days it would be hard to call the waves here real waves. Restroom facilities on site are primitive but there are several outdoor sand showers to clean off before the car ride home.
Great for kite surfing - wide open and expansive shallow flat are great for learning. It’s possible to walk 100 yards out into the water and be no deeper than knees-deep.
Bring a kayak and get out into the deeper water for some mean trout fishing.Written 6 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Our family enjoyed a wonderful fish dinner on the sound thanks to them. Kudos to my hubby, he grilled everything beautifully.Written 4 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Victoria BRaleigh, NC1,632 contributionsGreat ice cream! In the middle of the summer, lines are out the door, you can't even park in the parking lot and the putt-putt course is full each night. Thankfully, we were here in April and it was quiet. We walked right in, got our ice cream and walked out to the putt-putt area to sit in the shade and eat. Owner is really nice and chatted with us for a bit! He suggested what I ordered (can't remember the name) something "local" like Blackbeard or Hatteras ice cream. It had pineapple and cherries in it, maybe? Anyway, it was delicious!Written 6 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - meme2six136 contributionsOur family loves Buxton Village Books. It is a tradition to visit this wonderul little bookstore while there on vacation. My grandchildren love to receive Gift Certificates to the bookstore in their Christmas stockings and bring them on vacation to use. If you love to read, visit this store - they have new, used, local authors and children's books.Written 5 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Trip563579428531 contributionI left a kiteboard and kite with Fox on consignment. My wife and I stopped in there the first week of September 2023 and we were told the items had sold. At the time, I did not need any new equipment and asked for cash. The nice guy at the counter said he did not handle cash payments and would pass my information on to his boss. I have yet to receive my money. Since September, I have followed up with several phone calls, text messages, and a certified letter to no avail.
Over the past 20+ years, I have used Fox for board repairs and equipment purchases and I certainly did not expect to be treated so poorly. After this experience, I will not use this shop for their consignment services (for that matter) anything else.
Shame on Fox.Written 2 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
