#1 of 2 things to do in Hauganes
... information from the guide!on a beautiful old fishing boat, topped up with some fishing that was filleted and given to our kids to bring home1 ( Smile on everyone's faces!) Highly recommend this outfit.
... 6 other guests on the boat so plenty of space - a very enthusiastic guide - fine cookies and warm drinks - even orange juice for our children - but on top of the bill : we saw plenty of whales from very nearby !

The Old Farmhouse Laufas Akureyri, Iceland
#3 of 63 things to do in Akureyri
Fascinating to learn that often people kept the cows in the houses with them during the hard winters, which helped to keep the families warm!
Getting a glimpse into the past and how people lived was very interesting and even our children enjoyed seeing and comparing things with how we live today.
The Husavik Whale Museum Husavik, Iceland
#2 of 21 things to do in Husavik
Whale art, whaling history, whale education (Icelandic children are educated about whales quite early, as well as the need to protect nature).
Our kids got in free and we had booked a tour with gentle giants so we had 20% off, there’s a blue whale skeleton which is definitely the star attraction!
Herring Era Museum Siglufjordur, Iceland

Glaumbaer Museum Varmahlid, Iceland
#3 of 8 things to do in Varmahlid
It's interesting to see how simply people lived so recently (the place was used as a family home until 1947), and how they created their own culture - it highlights the isolation of Iceland.
This is the compound of a wealthy family that dates back to the 18th century but also stands upon where Viking descended Icelanders have lived for 1000 years.
Dettifoss Waterfall Lake Myvatn, Iceland

I would defintely recommend the west side to families with small kids or anyone who wants an easier experience, but if you are a bit adventorous you will enjoy the east side.

Although many areas have a rope enclosure, and there are many trail planks to walk on, I strongly recommend family with young children to keep a hold on their kids.
Warning that the sulphur smells horrible and may turn many away as it did my wife and kids.
