Lovely experience, great insight to the history of the area dating back 350 million years. My teens found it interesting especially as they got to use their own phone for the self guided tour. Cost wise cheapest one in the area.

Came here today on the 11am tour (Sat June 29th) after being at a concert here the night before. Wanted to learn more about the place. The concert was awesome , great venue , great staff, really relaxed but safe atmosphere. They say the cave is 'not pretty' but it really is pretty awesome ! All the fossils and formations made by water, fascinating, I just wish I could've heard it 'fart' wrong time of year though I believe. Our guide was loud (that's a very good thing on a tour) and very naturally funny and entertaining. The bit where you have to duck down to get through , beware if you have a bad back , it hurt mine. I have some weakness in my legs , I did find the terrain a bit uneven , I think I would've been better off bringing my stick. I like that dogs are allowed in too, the dog was entertaining also. Thank you.

Set off to the Peak District today in beautiful sunshine, was influenced by an Instagram post and it didn’t disappoint. We did a 7 mile loop to Mam Tor , hard and steep but totally worth it . Our dog Rufus enjoyed it too .

Such a great experience!! I'd definitely agree and say it is very overpriced for what you are getting, but again once you've seen it you probably won't do it again. The shop staff and tour guide were also great.

The castle was never big, so there's not much to see other than the ruined keep. However, the location is really impressive, with a commanding view from the top over the valley & towards Mam Tor. On the far side it stands on a cliff above Cave Dale and it is worth walking into the dale to see it from the same angle that Turner painted.

Amazing scenic place. Lovely streams and nice shops to look around. Very peaceful and romantic. You can also buy duck feed for 50p at one of the shops which I would highly recommend.

Get the free pamphlet from the pub/hotel The Bull's Head
Follow the route in the pamphlet. You might go a bit wrong around the junction but you'll figure it out if we did.
Very hilly start up Winnets pass, then it flattens out across the top. Do check out every tiny cave on the way down - its worth it.
Make your 60yr old mother bring her walking stick.
Go directly to Dolly's Tearoom afterwards

A lovely village churchyard with a lot of history. I went to look inside and was pleasantly surprised to find that the door was open. Stepping inside I was welcomed t come and have a look around by a lady (who I think may have been the vicar). As someone was waiting for me outside I didn't venture further in but took in the stained glass windows and neat pews from the doorway.

What a fantastic place Castleton is.
We called there last week & had a good day out. As for the visitors center we bought some bits from the shop. Very friendly staff & helpful.
I cant understand why the powers that be would want to close this shop down at all.
I have been coming here since I can remember & will continue to do so.

This little rare mine is well worth a visit if you can manage the steps.

My 7 year old and I visited at the weekend and were blown away by what lies beneath in this rare Blue John Cavern. I won’t give it away in the review as it will spoil the surprises, but at 49, I didn’t expect to learn so much about the world in this visit.

It’s quite the thrill as well, it’s not your standard wander through a cave.

We’d highly recommend, but do beware, it can be a little frightening for small ones and there are quite a few steps to get in and out again.

Super visit and really educational in a fun way

Stayed in Castleton for 2 nights. My husband wanted to buy me a brooch as a belated birthday gift to go with my small blue john pendant bought over30 years ago. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. When they saw the design that I wanted they got items from the window and their store that matched what I was looking for. It was a modest buy but I was treated as though I was spending more.

An exceptionally good experience. The shop staff were very helpful. We went into all the Blue John Shops in Castleton to see what was available in Earrings and Blue John Gems had far the most choice. If anyone is looking for an item of Blue John then this is the shop to go to.
