Wow, we had the most amazing visit with our 2 1/2 year old grandson. First time visit and had no idea what to expect and if it would be suitable. Firstly I can say what an absolute delight the staff are. We were warmly welcomed and nothing was too much trouble. I have never visited anywhere with such dedicated people who are obviously very proud to help and show you everything.
We spent a very happy 2 hours there. Our grandson loved all the old fashioned penny machines and was over the moon to win a Kit Kat on one. Totally besotted with the mini train expedition. Loved that the rocking horse could be rode. The children’s rooms with games was a wonderful touch.
As the grandparents we loved the displays that our grandson could interact with and chatting about what he could see.
We will defo return with him another time and also intend visiting on our own to read all the history and more adult displays.
Thank you for such a lovely experience

    Parking is good
    Lovely walks with great scenery.
    Great cafe, the Quarrymans rest.
Staff are brilliant and always happy and smiling.
Demi and Umayyah are a great pair of characters, always having a joke with customers.
In fact, all the staff are welcoming and friendly.

My wife & I popped in here today. We were pleasantly welcomed by the Landlady & the friendly customers. A nice selection of Ciders, Ales, Wines & Spirits. It's not every train station that has a pub like this👍🏼

What a pity that Dom Joly had sucha quiet, refurbished, theater in which to present his 'Hezbollah Walking Club' tour. The theater has recently undergone a refurbishment wit all the chairs being overhauled. Great facility that should be used more often by the local community. Hopefully the COVID-19 impacts will not hit it too hard in the next couple of months.

    What a great place.

Originally, the site was owned by Wellingborough Gas Light Co. who built the site towards the end of the Victorian era. It was a major gas works with gas holders and all the ancillary units necessary for production.
It's great that much of the site has been retained and has been developed into such a unique shopping experience devoid of the big chains that plague our High Streets.
A marvellous collection of independent shop units allows the visitor to browse at will and with many of the items hand made or sourced to meet a specific theme, you may be amazed to find things you didn't even know you wanted.

Had a "Smashing time" excuse the pun. All the staff were great. Especially Wayne when the youngest one in the party got a bit to excited and became faint and he made sure he was ok. We'll be back with some of our stuff to smash

Set in a country park this small industrial narrow gauge museum is worth a visit, especially if you include a visit to the country park and it's cafe. Entrance is free but only open on certain Sundays. Run by volunteers they welcome donations and new members. The volunteers were friendly and had lots of information about the engines they were restoring and how important such railways were to the area. Once a year Wellingborough museum hold a vintage bus rally with trips out to this excellent museum

Chester House Estate is a tricky thing to review.
I looked at the museum, appreciated the views, admired the buildings and nosed around the shops. My opinion on each is different. Which part to base my rating on?
The estate as a whole is a collection of attractive old buildings set in beautiful countryside, on a site that is known to have been inhabited for many centuries. The buildings have now been put to various uses, making this a sort of tourist/shopping/dining venue.
The shopping courtyard is probably the least inspiring element, since I could only find one concern open - a very nice cut/dried flower shop - and even that is poorly signed and easy to overlook.
There is also a bar in the courtyard, with hot and cold drinks, small snacks and some shelves of second hand history books.
Off the courtyard is the museum, dealing with the archaeological history of the site. It's a smart, well organised museum, though it must be said that the majority of it consists of boards to read and actual artefacts and exhibits are fairly thin on the ground. This building also houses an education centre.
There is an area of archaeological activity that can be visited too.
Despite being set between the dual carriageway and the edge of Wellingborough, the little pocket of countryside the estate occupies is peaceful and pretty. The canal, the railway and the more industrial features at the town's edge do not detract too much and, in fact, make for points of interest.
Although I did not have time to try them, there are a number of modest walking routes marked out around the estate and I saw quite a few people (and their dogs) thoroughly enjoying these.
The cafe, if I were to review it separately, would earn the full five stars. I ate an excellent full breakfast here and the price was very reasonable. The setting in the old building and surrounded by fields and trees adds to its charm.
I should mention that events such as fetes, craft fairs, musical concerts and theatre are put on at Chester house, whether outside or in one of the several function rooms around the place. I would think it suits such events very well.
So - a mixed bag. It could be improved in several ways but. overall, I definitely fell for its charms.
