What travellers are saying
- Leah H1 contributionTook the kids to Hatfield house for the half term experience. Absolutely fantastic and have bought a membership now. Beautiful long walk and made bird feeders. Then took the truck ride and a lovely man named Dermot was explaining some of the history of the area. Showed us where Paddington was filmed and was generally very lovely! Can’t wait to go loads through the season.Written 23 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- therichastillStevenage, UK2,719 contributionsI was interested to visit the Mill Green Museum and was impressed.
There is a very good display about the musicians who were from the local area and places they performed in Hatfield. I was surprised to discover one of the Rolling Stones was from Hatfield!
There are other things to see in the mill including the mill itself with its waterwheel. There's also a decent gift shop where you can buy locally milled flour from the mill.
The only disappointment for me was that I wanted to pay to visit by cash and they did not have any money to enable me to do this.Written 24 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The restaurants/cafes are generally chain groups - there used to be a nicer range of food placesWritten 7 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - therichastillStevenage, UK2,719 contributionsThe River Lea originates near Luton and meanders to Hertford through places like Hatfield.
At Hertford it meets the rivers Mimram, Rib and Beane where the Lea becomes much wider and from Hertford it is navigable all the way to East London and the River Thames.
There are plenty of places to walk along beside the river and it is very pleasant.Written 30 October 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bryony T1 contributionWe had a lovely day out today at Hatfield park doing the half term acitivities. The park is lovely for a walk and the activities were sweet - all the staff were so kind and helpful. The trailer ride was the best bit which wasn’t actually advertised - they took you on a loop of the park and you could hop on and off - and Dermot the guide told you lots of wonderful facts about the house and parklands. The kids loved it! John was a great driver - they made our day with their friendliness.Written 19 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WGLondon, UK18 contributionsVisited Hatfield Swim Centre for a kids party. The venue is excellent but it has to be said the childrens enjoyment was somewhat curtailed by the overzealous and fanatical life guards to whom every single thing seemed to contravene a health & safety regulation. The party included some parents being present in the pool to supervise and yet even then they seemed in a constant panic, shouting and whistling. Safety is obviously the top priority at a venue like this but try and tone it down just a little…Written 12 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - therichastillStevenage, UK2,719 contributionsThe walk from Nast Hyde to Smallford is part of the Alban Way from Hatfield to St Albans. It is very picturesque with a variety of different things to see including the former railway station at Nast Hyde which has been beautifully restored. From there it's into the countryside, the former trackbed has created a lovely avenue. It's about a mile from Nast Hyde to Smallford station.
Depending on your energy levels you may want to stop here however I would suggest continuing your walk to St Albans.
There are regular buses from St Albans to Hatfield to get you back to your starting point.Written 20 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
