Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Sam3314Derby, UK2,153 contributionsA lovely zoo of smaller animals except for the polar bears. Visiting in winter it is very cold so do wrap up warm, the polar bears are very active though so well worth visiting. As the day progresses more animals come out, we saw pretty much everything except for the red squirrels which were hiding. All the animals are well looked after and have plenty of space so you do get to see them well. Attending the talks is very interesting. A good family day outWritten 19 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- amyelisemillarCongleton, UK608 contributionsWe hiked using Alltrails to complete The Roaches and Luds church circular.
There are plenty of lay-bys to park in and a large car park next to the team rooms which has an “honesty” pay policy.
This was a fantastic route to walk with breath taking views, steep inclines, opportunities for rock climbing and scrambling.
We went on fair weather conditions on a Saturday and it was getting quite busy and it was 9:30am. I would say, get there earlier to avoid not finding a parking space!Written 10 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Head to the peak after. Gorgeous views!Written 22 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The cafe was ideal for a rest and a cup of coffee after our walk too.
Plenty of places to sit and rest too along the edge.Written 5 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Although we were seasoned bikers, none of us had ridden trials bikes before. Stu and his team are absolute professionals with teaching skills to match. My daughter received one to one tuition and was up on the pegs and riding within in minutes, a big proud dad moment for me. The rest of us were put through our paces with a warm up and stretches, reacquainting us with muscles long since forgotten. Instructors, Stu and Ian are incredibly engaged in ensuring everyone gets the most from the day. Although in a group, everyone gets individual attention and instruction where needed. By the time we parked the bikes up at the end of the day, we had had an absolute blast, and aside from a lot of giggles along the way, we had all learnt some new skills. Thank you to Stu and the team at Trials Day.Written 17 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Tracy H2 contributionsThe experience was magical, My Grandchildren Aged 7, 3 and 3 all had a wonderful time. The staff were amazing and made the whole experience magical, replicating the Polar Express movie with their dancing and story telling, They deserve 5 stars for their part in the experience inside the train with the wonderful dancing. The attention to detail is fantastic, they cut into all the children's Golden tickets with their initial it was all so personal The Train itself was awesome and Im so glad we chose Churnet as its such a lovely station and more magical than a Main inside train station. Father Christmas was amazing too, it was all just wonderful. Each person is given a bell at the end too from Father Christmas and these are such good quality and a lovely touch along with a really nice quality memorable Mug, again of excellent quality. I would say that for my own personal recommendation the Northern lights that they try and show in the tunnel could be a lot better as you couldn't really see the affect or the colours and the external sets could be a little grander as you go along the line, as they were unimpressive, but overall an amazing Day and I would thoroughly recommend to anyone for a lovely magical family Day out. I have put 4 stars due to the things I have mentioned but as I said the inside experience is 5 stars. Thank you for a lovely, Magical day out.Written 7 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- prs54fmpuLeeds, UK405 contributionsAs a train enthusiast of all shapes and sizes, this is an excellent visit, the trains and carriages are well maintained, and the volunteers do a great job. The cafe needs bit of work, an increase in more local produce would be nice, but it is adequate and not the main attractionWritten 28 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
