Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- MATT7159Tadley, UK236 contributionsWe hired some ebikes from granite way cycles which backs on to the granite way.
Its a great path to follow one off the best I've been on, we cycled up and down it and a bit further.
We had to stop for a cream tea along the way too.
Great for families and novice cyclists.Written 26 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We walked back through the park up to the station after dropping someone off who was travelling by train to Exeter. The station itself is nice, parking is £2 for the day. The station is at the top of a hill, level with the start of the granite way. If you want to visit the park (with kids/dog etc) but don’t/can’t do the pathway up and down then you can drive to the carpark for Simmons park pool instead.
The route we took was on a scenic railways website but we did it in reverse order as we wanted the longest part of the walk first.
As you leave the main door of the station go left, leave the station road area and go right down the hill a few metres and turn right into a signposted path. The path is the width of an old railway line. It goes through trees and eventually you’re walking by the river. Keep on the path until you reach a viaduct overhead and you’re beside a ford called Fatherford. There are options for walks here but we went left over Charlotte’s bridge and followed the signs for town. You pass by fields and you always have water beside you, there were dog walkers etc out but it wasn’t too busy considering it was a fine Sunday morning.
You come out by Okehampton college, go right and keep going, you’re on residential roads now, until you come to a main road with businesses on, go left for the town centre etc and left also if you’re to walk straight back to the station via Simmons Park.
We had a quick stop in Waitrose/Lidl for shopping, they’re next to each other and there’s a good pet shop near them. There are shops and cafes etc in the town, it’s not a big place and some are closed on Sunday but it’s worth a mooch if you’ve time.
Then back to the railway station through Simmons Park, up a stepped path back to the road which goes up to the station. 🚉
It’s a very pleasant, well maintained walk. About an hour or a bit longer if you’re not stopping in town. A good option if you want some air and exercise but don’t want to go on a long hike or bike ride.Written 21 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The staff (John and Lyn) were very welcoming and accommodated our every need! The food was of high quality and plentiful; we sampled both the Pork and Beef, and both were equally good! The vegetables were cooked to perfection too! Desserts - Creme Brulee, Sticky toffee pud and 'Black forest tower' were all beautifully presented and finished off our lunch perfectly!Written 1 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jhayes112016Urmston, UK63 contributionsPopped in without booking during Valentines week...Haven't been for 20 years but it hasn't changed much apart from upgraded lighting and a massive pair of red shoes at the entrance to the car park. Just stopped in for a nosey and a pint....lots of people eating veggie food (thankfully, I'd just had a giant steak pasty in Okehampton). Everyone seemed to be enjoying the food and I liked my pint and bag of crisps in a unique setting...Good fun 😸🍺👍Written 29 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
