Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great half day tour. Christina was our guide tour and was very knowledgeable about all the monuments we visited and as well as the Escorial Monastery.

Christina our guide met us promptly as agreed and we were shown to a high quality small bus. Mainly Spanish speakers but this in no way detracted from tour as full translations were given. The tour took place at a moderate speed, easy enough to keep up for those of us a little slow but not excessive. Lots of steps of differing angles so I would not recommend for those with poor knees or mobility issues. Not all have handrails. El Escorial is beautiful beyond description. Look it up before you go.!

We stopped in the village for a quick coffee and can recommend the small patisserie cafe Alaska for a takeaway. The orange crème patisserie filled mini donuts were delicious

The valley of the fallen was interesting but I wish we had spent more time at the monastery as we didn’t get to see the gardens. We did however see an eagle soaring above the park.

My only other criticism would be that we only had time to visit the tiny bookshop at the valley of the fallen not at El Escorial. I would have liked to see more souvenirs as no pictures are allowed inside.

We liked Christina very much. She was informative and able to answer many questions including about Spanish current affairs. Monica is an excellent driver and made the journey comfortable.

In summary, it was an excellent, well organised tour at a very good price. Communication was very good. I would strongly recommend.

Comprehensive tour of the Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen. Safe driving, clean vehicle, good audiosystem and we saw the highlights of both places.

This was an excellent Saturday escape after three days of exploring among the crowds in the old, central part of Madrid. I’d requested an earlier start of 8:30 than the standard 9:30. Our driver, Jamal, and guide, Maria, were at the entrance to our hotel when we stepped out a few minutes early. It was a very comfortable ride in a newer Mercedes E-Class sedan under clear blue skies. Due to our early start, we rode straight to Segovia. The city was still quiet when we arrived which afforded an excellent opportunity to explore the ancient Roman aqueduct and have a short walkabout the village. We stopped a couple of times for views of the countryside as we headed up the hill to our tour of the Alcazar. Maria gave us an excellent historic narrative as we walked through the amazing structure. Jamal was waiting as we emerged and took us back down the hill where he left us with Maria for a tour of the village. When we were ready to eat, Maria made several cafe suggestions and left us to lunch on the main plaza with time to explore and shop on our own. At the agreed time, we met up and headed to Valley of the Fallen. The four of us had an enjoyable and animated conversation during transit. On arrival, the scent of the surrounding forest was intoxicating. From our reading before the trip, we were expecting a crude cave. It was breath-taking to walk through the bronze doors into what is the remarkably magnificent, ornately beautiful sanctuary inside a mountain. Maria was right there, giving us a point-by-point narrative of this miracle of construction as we viewed the spectacle. Back in the car, with waters once again refreshed by Jamal, we headed to El Escorial with further dialog about the area and El Escorial itself. (I have to say what a pleasure it was to have the little water bottles replenished throughout the day.) Maria’s remarkable knowledge of the monastery’s history was offered up and down the stairways and throughout various chambers. The library alone was worth the trip. It was a restful, quiet ride back into Madrid with points of interested acknowledged by both Jamal and Maria along the way. It was an excellent day tour. Pricey for only two of us, but certainly worth it in my estimation. Maria and Jamal were both knowledgeable, friendly and a pleasure to spend a day with. I couldn’t recommend any other way to see these three phenomenally historic venues.

It was a great experience to take a private tour and stroll around the palace in el escorial .I enjoyed the pleasure of strolling around the surrounding nature and gardens, visiting places with incredibly beautiful paintings and historical weight, and having a very relaxing conversation and time. This time, the entrance to the meeting place was not the one with many tourists lined up, but the one with the smaller one, then moved to the front entrance.

If you love culture and history this trip is for you! The sites are beautiful, and you learn so much. There were 2 guides in the morning which was great because the group split (English and Spanish) for the visit of the Monastery. As it was Sunday morning, we weren't able to access the Basilica unfortunately. Toledo in the afternoon was very well structured and we saw a lot in half a day. The group in the afternoon was quite big (38 people) so be prepared for moving with a crowd. Wear comfortable shoes - there is quite a bit of walking (and free time to do some shopping).

Diego was a great guide, big picture explanations for the group providing enough general historical background but able and willing to go into details when asked for specifics.

The tour takes you to two important places in Spanish history and culture. El Escorial is much bigger than you think and it really takes a tour guide to give you all the important details of the place. It is beautiful and interesting. The Valley of the Fallen features a scenic view over the entire valley. The Basilica is dug into the mountain and is the longest Basilica outside of the Vatican. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes since most of the day is spent walking. Take water and a hat if touring in the summer. The tour lasts about six hours and is really not suitable for younger children. There is no break for lunch.

We had a wonderful experience. First, we got a ride in a very beautiful Mercedes Benz van with Manuel as the chófer, Carmen was the tour guide. They were very friendly and professional. Then we headed to El Escorial, she was excellent. She told us so much about the history and meaning of many of the things we were looking at. The chapel is impressive, the Castle is beautiful. Then we headed to the Valley of the Fallen. Very interesting part of history. The tallest cross in the world. The view was amazing. Then we headed back to Madrid and both Carmen and Manuel made sure we made it back on time for our next event. Just wonderful.
