Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Although the weather wasn't too good,it was a nice place to visit this ruined but well kept visitor site.
The only complaint is that it needs more information signs to tell you what you are looking at.
Signage from the town could be better also.

Had a free pass for the races, so decided to use it and experience the event.
    Nice public buildings and spaces
Plenty of places to eat and drink and place your bets if you want to.
    Plenty of clean toilet facilities
You can bring your own food and drink (with restrictions).

We went because we were in pontefract. It was great. There were so many things there that I was interested in. We even donated a bit at the end because we want it to keep going.

beautiful and well kept nature reserve in a limestone valley. We stopped here to break a journey its very accessible from the motorway and there are clear (if not too well signposted) tracks. Wild flowers were lovely.

The Hayloft. Lovely venue for a party or occasion. Buffet was first class. Just sell a kidney if you plan on buying a round.

We use this park every day with our dog, it’s nice to see it being used by other people as well , including cyclists, walkers, horses , joggers, and the runners who have recently come to use the park on a Saturday morning, 9am-10, but when it comes to taping off the path I’m very sorry but they are obstructing our right of way , and there is absolutely no need for it , we had to stride over the tape and then duck underneath it this morning with the dog , actually they are acting as if they own the park for the morning , we don’t inconvenience them , and they shouldn’t inconvenience us. We’ve been walking over here for the last 40 years , well before it was a park , and it was the tips.

As a child my wife and her parents brought her children here on a semi-regular basis and they all enjoyed it. I had never been and so we decided to return to mark her sons 18th. Along with her daughter and our grand daughters, as well as my parents and sister, we booked for the Sunday cavery, tea and races.

The food was lovely and plentiful, lots of meat options and multiple gravies available. The desert menu was long and varied and the sandwiches and cakes for tea were also nice.

On a customer service front I can’t find fault; all bar and service staff were friendly and, as we were leaving and our daughter thought she had lost her car keys, the owner was prepared to empty bags of rubbish to check for them (luckily it didn’t come to that).

The bar was reasonably priced so no complaints there either.

If I was to find a niggle it would be some of the people in the red “Kinsley” polo shirts got a bit over exuberant with their choice of language when their dogs were winning. I’ve no issue with swearing but doing so around children of guests was not appropriate.

Other than that it was a lovely, fun day out and I would enjoy going back.

    A very unusual church.
From the distance it looks like an old ruin. But in fact inside the ruins there is a current working church built inside the old ruins.
Unfortunately it was closed when I visited.

A rather large park next to the hospital and just on the edge of town. You could miss this if driving as you have to go down steps to the park.

Very large and well kept. Plenty of flowers on show. Boards showing information. Shame they removed the old paddling pool.

Visited today and found the layout of the outside area to be a lot better, the signage is much clearer on plant areas “kitchen garden” “herb garden” The pricing is extremely reasonable and we were stopped by a lovely lady who asked if we needed any help, she was a relatively new employee and was very helpful. She gave us some great advice and it was nice to be greeted with a friendly face. The shop area is nice, some lovely gifts and household items.
We also visited the cafe and it was great that they allow dogs. The staff are very friendly in there, the food is also very nice. The only small issue I would have is that the service at the till is quite slow so a cue was formed. The girl on the till was lovely, just maybe a little bit more hurry would help to prevent people cuing. Also I wanted a Jacket potato but was told it would be a wait for it to be cooked, I think with such a small menu these should probably be readily available. The food was absolutely beautiful though, right down to the side salad which was very fresh and tasty. All in all, a very pleasant visit and we will certainly return.
