Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have always visited historic Smithfield as part of our annual anniversary trip to Williamsburg but were looking for some new things to do while we were in the area and decided to visit St. Luke's Historic Church & Museum and it did not disappoint especially since it was just my wife and I there at the time. Our guide, Mrs. Gloria LaBoone, was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to answer several question we had about the history and some recent archeological digs that had been done. That the building has been so well preserved is a testament to both its original construction and the organization that has seen to its upkeep over the years. If you love history and architecture then it is well worth the time to visit St. Luke's.

Very interesting place. Beautifully restored. Great guided tours. Be ready to dive deep into its history. Free. I would NOT recommend for kids under age 12. May 2022

The name attracted us - we're from SC, and SC produced a family of Huger patriots . This fort, intended to protect Richmond from Federal incursions up the James River, let us see its importance in Confederate defense, but also its powerlessness once ironclads entered the picture. Signs explaining how the rather large fort was designed help you visualize the scene. We were surprised how very wide the river is at its mouth and even this far up...so it was well worth the trip. Use your GPS to get there - Highway signs not always great - and walk a bit from the parking lot to the fort. That walk helps you see the terrain that was a protection from the land side.

This is a wonderful natural area that has many trails. The beach is a bit hard to find but it’s worth it. It was a great day at the beach.

The artist was on site with her lovely "French Impressionist" style. Other garden items were also for sale. A Curiosity Shoppe of sorts.

This Church prides itself on serving the masses. Always willing to be a community leader in volunteerism. Beautiful and historical also.

The Nelms House is located in downtown historic Smithfield. A canary yellow Victorian Queen Anne House that includes a turret has a surprise around every corner. Beautifully decorated with period furnishings. It contains a rotation of local art, floral arrangements, pre-designed rooms, a Tea Room with beverages & scrumptious finger foods, etc. You can get a tour of the house or rent various rooms in the house to suit your particular function. Various events & classes are periodically offered for a fee. Many items are for sale! The owners are a charm to meet and to socialize with!
