Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

LOVED this amazing place! A great place to get truly wonderful gifts for yourself...friends...and family! I cannot wait to return. Be VERY careful parking and leaving the parking area. And I recommend the restaurant across the street *look for the roster on the outer wall*

Huge campus that was spread out. Entrance was off the main street shopping/eating area. Enjoyed this nice hilly area to get our steps in and we felt very safe here. Lovely campus that was quiet since semester hadn't started yet but we met amazing young people that were maintaining the campus.

This quaint little visitor center had a multitude of brochures for all sorts of shops, restaurants, events, and activities in Shepherdstown and surrounding areas. It also had a selection of Shepherdstown souvenirs, and the staff member we spoke with was very welcoming and knowledgeable.

Our docent came to give us a tour on her day off. She took us from room to room and talked of the museum's and the town's history. It was a wonderful walk through history. The furnishings and items displayed were all authentic and were created back in the early days. A wonderful place to visit as part of your tour to Shepherdstown.

This is the place for theater lovers to be in July for the Contemporary American Theater Festival. New. adventurous works premiere in this theater in the round, overlooking Shepherdstown and the mountains beyond. Ample free parking, walkable from downtown restaurants.

Although this is listed as a bike path, it's wide enough for walkers/hikers. While on vacation in Shepherdstown, we would cross over the bridge to the trail in the evening. Most of the bikers are gone by then.
My wife likes flat trails. I like woods. This trail provides both.
You have the Potomac River on one side and if you hike north, there are rock bluffs on the other. Loved it!

Cutest little library you have ever seen. It is a building set off by itself with a tree planted in front. I did not go inside but I feel like it should be in a Wes Anderson film.

Elmwood Cemetery is the resting place of many Revolutionary War veterans, Civil War veterans, early Shepherdstown residents and Shepherd University presidents. The 150-year-old cemetery was formed from two church-owned cemeteries, the Presbyterian graveyard and the Methodist graveyard, and has since outgrown those original boundaries to include a Superintendent's House, which is currently undergoing renovation. Visitors can comfortably walk along the roads through the cemetery, or take a closer look at the tombstones dating back to the 1600s. Unlike some historic cemeteries, Elmwood is still selling grave plots, which may be of interest to history lovers.

This amazing gem happens during 3 weeks each July in Shepherdstown, WV. 6 plays are presented in repertory in 3 theater spaces, two of which are purpose-built arena spaces, allowing one to see all plays in a 3 day visit. There are also discussions, talks, and often the reading of a new work being developed for the next season. 2020 will be the Festival's 30th season.
This is fully professional theatre of high quality that is intensely engaging. The founding Artistic Director, Ed Herenden, is dedicated to developing new works of American Theater. This mission is even reflected in the Festival's name, as it uses the American spelling of the word "theater" as opposed to the usual French spelling "theatre".
Shepherdstown itself is a very attractive and charming old town on the banks of the Potomac. It has kept its charm by preserving and continuing to use its older buildings, and its restaurants range from fine dining to a casual diner. All are excellent--at least I haven't found one I didn't like in the 3 years I've been attending the Festival.

Beautiful views of Potomac River and surrounding area. Small park with no fees. Worth a short stop if you’re in the area.

We have attended many concerts and movies held at this location. It is a charming place and wonderful venue for smaller shows. It is nice to have this option in our community.

this small church we found on one of the side streets as we were walking. Building seemed to be leaning or maybe just my imagination?
