Volcano Garden Arts was founded by Ira Ono, a former New Yorker who went to Hawaii and never left. We were greeted with a glass of wine, Ira's attentive staff, and Ira himself. The art gallery was very well curated and pieces and jewelry were easy to see and well-displayed. Our group from a NCL cruise ship were treated with wonderful camaraderie. Even though I don't buy much jewelry anymore, a unique piece of fabric art caught my eye. I knew the necklace would match a set of earrings I had back on the ship. Ira also sold sets but this was the color for me. Other nice objets d'art and art, all locally designed and crafted. Really beautiful gallery and such a nice experience. The wine was good, too!

Nice short stop about halfway between Hilo and Volcanoes NP. If you have any interest in gardening or botany in general, this is a MUST SEE. The orchids are perfect, absolutely amazing. Nice gift shop too.

We drove to the winery after being at the National Park. The wine was good. I liked the Pinot Noir. I don’t believe the grapes are grown in the area (or on the island).

We arrived on the island around 2PM and drove here, it was an easy 2 hour drive. We were jet lagged so we were up early and headed into the park at 7AM and it was greaT to be there befor the crowds arrived. I would suggest the crater hike and lava tube, this took about 2 hours. Don’t miss the crater road to the west of the visitors center, go all the way to the end for the best views, it’s only a five minute drive. If you have time drive to the far south part of the park along the coast too. This could be done in a long day, or if you came the night befor like we did, you could go in early and be done by 2 and head back to Kona. Great park and I would suggest it to anyone.

I hiked to the uppermost cabin on Mauna Loa (13,500 ft elevation approximately) back in 1986. I have always been interesting the forested slopes off Mauna Loa Road (near the parking lot at approximately 6,500 ft elevation). I wandered out there at twilight and was treed by wild pigs. I stayed in an ohia tree all night until the last boar left after sunrise. It was very exciting, but I don’t recommend the experience to anyone. Priceless to be two months shy of 70 and end up running for (your) life at altitude. Glad I found a tree!

What a great market! Go hungry for breakfast & coffee. Bring a sweatshirt, its chilly! Shop local produce & check out the local crafters. There's a playground for the kids. Great community!

While this is a small gallery, and it is a bit off the beaten track.. this gallery is a gem.
Beautiful art glass, with all kinds of price points to purchase.

I had to take a moment to leave a review for Lilihouse Farm. We visited more than 3 years ago with family and friends for Tea and the petting zoo for my daughters birthday. We still talk about that day and smile. Have you ever found yourself breathing in, looking around and thinking this is too great to be real? That's what it felt like the entire afternoon at Lilihouse farm.

Long way to drive but totally worth it. The trails were very good, the information centre great and the views spectacular. So glad we went despite the pouring rain

5 out of 5; Glass art studio allows visitors to meet Jaime and observe tools and techniques she uses to create her artwork. Amazing grounds in the Village of Volcano along historic Old Volcano Road with views of native Ohias and ferns. The studio is situated in the mountain rainforest with manicured gardens and lots of unique decor throughout provide a soothing atmosphere and relaxing experience. There is a gallery in the studio where she sells her work. There’s a nice assortment of gifts in different price ranges. I definitely recommend stopping by when you are in Volcano.

If you want one of the most amazing experiences of your life, sign up for the 4 hr tour of this cave. It is an incredible life experience. The guide, Harry, is super knowledgeable and informative, and adds great value to the experience. This cave is unique - it is literally like visiting a part of our planet one has never seen. The tour was moderately challenging so it is best to be in reasonable fitness. The information Harry provides, and the uniqueness of the cave, make the cost of the tour a good value and well worth it. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough.

A walking tour of a natural forest farm at 4,000 feet near Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island with hundreds of mamaki trees and shrubs growing in the forest. Knowledgeable guide explains everything, and served tea on the lanai. And we took a bag of tea home! What a beautiful spot and definitely off the beaten path.
