Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

5 full-on days, even when a Force 9 confined us to East Cowes for a day. Systematically worked through the syllabus.
    Nomad chooses its skipper/trainer/examiners well.
The boat was well designed and well equipped and maintained.
On this course we mixed well, supported each other, and had some laughs.
The only serious point was ensuring the even distribution of Lou’s bake, which out rated even the skipper.

Amazing little find! All staff so friendly and welcoming to us and our young family. Entertaining the eldest so we could read about the diving in the area, taking time to talk to us and spend time with us. Highly recommend!

Spent a fascinating few hours at the Hovercraft Museum. Much more to see than I was anticipating. The volunteer staff are so knowledgeable and friendly and able to answer any questions. We thorough enjoyed our time there, learnt a lot and the cafe was perfect to round off the visit with drinks and snacks.

Fantastic visit. Great to see inside the submarine, but what made it really special is the people that work there. The people inside the submarine where really knowledgeable and served at sea on a submarine.

We did a skills and Drills weekender with Broadreach sailing and had Simon the owner as our instructor. Simon has a fantastic style of instruction, very calm and patient and very clearly explains complicated things with tips and simple ways to action. The boat is in great condition and comfortably accommodated us all. Allround a great course and we will definitely use Simon again in the future

The tour of the submarine was good. The Guide who’d worked on a submarine made it very interesting. Was set up to show what it was like in 1940s.

The ferry goes every 15 minutes and takes about 5 minutes to cross the water between Portsmouth and Gosport - the ferry terminal is immediately to the right of Portsmouth Harbour station. There are 2 ticket machines but despite the website claiming the ticket office is open from 7am daily, I never saw it open. This could be a problem if the machines are broken or if your card doesn't work or you don't have cash. A single is £4.80 (hmmm - a bit pricey?) but the views of Portsmouth and over to the Isle of Wight are great.

Wonderful place. The people there do interact with visitors. The scribe was especially good. Had an excellent way of describing his work, which was both informative and easy to follow.

A gem! Had a tour guide 21st April 2024 and he was phenomenal!
Getting the boat over was easy and part of our ultimate explorer ticket. By far the best thing we have seen because of the passion of the guide.

Had such a great weekend gaining some valuable experience around sailing a yacht. Very professionally organised and Nick, the skipper added enormously to this with his great knowledge , clear communication and fun company. Would definitely sail with Commodore again in the future.

A lovely stretch of beach t walk along in the dreary winter months as they have a long concrete promenade. The wind whistles of the sea so it's nice and bracing. The local shops are a stone's throw away for refreshment and the views out to sea are marvelous.

Enjoyable place to walk along with not too many people crowding the promenade like Southsea or Lee On The Solent.

Couldn't recommend Martin and Solent Sail more! We have just had a fantastic long weekend sailing! Wow what an adventure!!

My husband and I were at first both pretty hesitant at the idea of walking into the unknown and mingling with people we hadn't met before. But we took the plunge and went ahead with it, and are now so pleased we did!
Martin is a great host and quickly put us all at ease, he was warm and welcoming and helped bond our group together quickly. We all got on really well, as we shared an unforgettable experience together, where there were laughs a plenty.

We went on the 4 day Easter Cruise (which should be renamed the Gourmet Food + Sailing tour!). Weather wasn't viable for the intended route across the Channel thanks to a storm in the days prior, so we were glad when Martin suggested an alternative smoother passage which saw us travel East from Portsmouth, to Chichester, then onto Brighton, then back West across to the Isle of Wight, and then back to Portsmouth.

Days were spent pulling together as a team to help make passage plans, take turns on the helm, and setting and trimming sails, in addition to making and sharing lunches together (soup and home made bread one day were delicious!). Then come the evenings, we enjoyed well earned dinner and drinks, where again we had some brilliant food, in some fantastic local pubs, and onboard INXSA. One night we had an amazing Fish Pie (courtesy of Martin) followed by a home made Apple Crumble (courtesy of another of our party), which were simply a treat!. In addition to really getting a great authentic experience of life onboard, a real bonus to the sailing trip, was the culinary experience.

Martin was a qualified RYA instructor, so in addition to being in very competent hands, he was very generous with his time and experience, and kindly provided lots of training and guidance to those of us that were keen to develop our skills. It was a brilliant way for us to learn so much in an informal setting, while also just enjoying the passages. Martin's cool calm and relaxed style was brilliant! We also had a chance to sail in multiple different sea states and wind conditions, on all points of sail, and even got to use the full sail wardrobe, using the Code Zero and the beautiful Spinnaker in some glorious downwind sailing.

One other thing to note is that the opportunity to spend time on a Catamaran is absolute gold, and Solent Sail is one of the few, if not the only business on the Solent offering this sort of opportunity (as far as we are aware). INXSA is a modern luxury 40ft Nautiteck Open Catamaran, which is incredibly safe, stable, and roomy, with really comfortable cabins and bathrooms. It was a completely different experience to a Monohull for all these positive reasons. I generally suffer with seasickness on Monohulls, but was fine on the Cat in a variety of conditions.

We are so very pleased we found Solent Sail and will most definitely be coming back for more adventures!
