Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

5 full-on days, even when a Force 9 confined us to East Cowes for a day. Systematically worked through the syllabus.
    Nomad chooses its skipper/trainer/examiners well.
The boat was well designed and well equipped and maintained.
On this course we mixed well, supported each other, and had some laughs.
The only serious point was ensuring the even distribution of Lou’s bake, which out rated even the skipper.

Had such a great weekend gaining some valuable experience around sailing a yacht. Very professionally organised and Nick, the skipper added enormously to this with his great knowledge , clear communication and fun company. Would definitely sail with Commodore again in the future.

We did a skills and Drills weekender with Broadreach sailing and had Simon the owner as our instructor. Simon has a fantastic style of instruction, very calm and patient and very clearly explains complicated things with tips and simple ways to action. The boat is in great condition and comfortably accommodated us all. Allround a great course and we will definitely use Simon again in the future

Couldn't recommend Martin and Solent Sail more! We have just had a fantastic long weekend sailing! Wow what an adventure!!

My husband and I were at first both pretty hesitant at the idea of walking into the unknown and mingling with people we hadn't met before. But we took the plunge and went ahead with it, and are now so pleased we did!
Martin is a great host and quickly put us all at ease, he was warm and welcoming and helped bond our group together quickly. We all got on really well, as we shared an unforgettable experience together, where there were laughs a plenty.

We went on the 4 day Easter Cruise (which should be renamed the Gourmet Food + Sailing tour!). Weather wasn't viable for the intended route across the Channel thanks to a storm in the days prior, so we were glad when Martin suggested an alternative smoother passage which saw us travel East from Portsmouth, to Chichester, then onto Brighton, then back West across to the Isle of Wight, and then back to Portsmouth.

Days were spent pulling together as a team to help make passage plans, take turns on the helm, and setting and trimming sails, in addition to making and sharing lunches together (soup and home made bread one day were delicious!). Then come the evenings, we enjoyed well earned dinner and drinks, where again we had some brilliant food, in some fantastic local pubs, and onboard INXSA. One night we had an amazing Fish Pie (courtesy of Martin) followed by a home made Apple Crumble (courtesy of another of our party), which were simply a treat!. In addition to really getting a great authentic experience of life onboard, a real bonus to the sailing trip, was the culinary experience.

Martin was a qualified RYA instructor, so in addition to being in very competent hands, he was very generous with his time and experience, and kindly provided lots of training and guidance to those of us that were keen to develop our skills. It was a brilliant way for us to learn so much in an informal setting, while also just enjoying the passages. Martin's cool calm and relaxed style was brilliant! We also had a chance to sail in multiple different sea states and wind conditions, on all points of sail, and even got to use the full sail wardrobe, using the Code Zero and the beautiful Spinnaker in some glorious downwind sailing.

One other thing to note is that the opportunity to spend time on a Catamaran is absolute gold, and Solent Sail is one of the few, if not the only business on the Solent offering this sort of opportunity (as far as we are aware). INXSA is a modern luxury 40ft Nautiteck Open Catamaran, which is incredibly safe, stable, and roomy, with really comfortable cabins and bathrooms. It was a completely different experience to a Monohull for all these positive reasons. I generally suffer with seasickness on Monohulls, but was fine on the Cat in a variety of conditions.

We are so very pleased we found Solent Sail and will most definitely be coming back for more adventures!

Second time on Bella with a crew of 6 friends, what can I say, excellent boat, excellent skipper in Ken, excellent banter, food etc the list goes on.

Great when wet and wild early in the year and also hot and calm in Summer, really great fun whilst participating in an exciting sport.

A highlight of my year - was my second attempt at the Round the Island Race.

Last year had a touch amateur feel to it, most of the Class 40 fleet had been decimated by the Round Ireland Race and half the team joined us on the morning of the Race.

This year had a great feeling from the first day, we were going out to competitively race against the other Class 40 yacht.

The whole team was present for the training day, and allowed us to practice and get go at our evolutions.

The only downside was the start was at 05:00, so we had to slip by 03:00. The reward for this was being deep in the melee of the start line off Cowes. Standing on the bow to judge the start line, seeing yacht sliding past each other, getting the adrenaline pumping.

    Then we were off....

Easy work down to the Needles, thanks to a northerly wind. Then wide out and gybing and getting the Spinnaker raised and then unleashing 40simo downwind power - smashing through St Cat's back in the thick of the yacht. Stealing air.

We were quickly back up to the Forts and across the line.

Then mooring on the buoy and having lunch, yes 7 hours racings and we get lunch.

Before catching a taxi into Cowes for a well deserved dinner.

Then a lovely chilled day of fun sailing around the Solent on our way back.

Also did the Gosport Challenge Cup and gained line honours and title of the youngest crews!

This shop offers a good range of diving equipment and advice etc. Slightly confusing for customers when one asks a question and is greeted by elderly lady who then fetches elderly gentleman who then involves son... lovely to see a family business that works though!

This was supposed to be a five star review, and I know it could have easily be just that. However I have to score my personal experience , which was not the greatest.
I went out on a day sailing around the Isle of Wight and I was excited about that, as these days out are nice oportunities to build some miles on the water and meet new people who share the same passion about sailing. And I did meet new people, great people I might say. However there was one inconvenient: they were all speaking russian and I was the only one on the boat who did not understand anything. Imagine sitting a whole day with 9 people that are having a great time talking, joking, having fun, and the only time someone talks to you is to give you short instructions about the boat.
If I am looking in the schedule of the day, from 9 to 9:30 it should have been an introduction and safety breefing. I did not get any of that. Maybe there was a safety breefing with everyone else, but I do not know. The other people were already on the boat when I arrived, I was told they stayed overnight.
As I said, this would have been a five star review if I was on a boat where I could have understood what everyone is saying.
Maybe in the future I will repeat this and change my review, but for now I need to rate my personal experience.
